“Restaurants are done.” “I have people calling me in tears every day… 40 years in business, now going under.” “Not the consumer… the government is totally killing the restaurant industry.” When experienced operators say this, the government must listen. The tax and cost burden is unsustainable.

@NormanBrennan @BethBryan63 This has been going on for years. Our local M&S (now closed) used to get the local druggies walk out with armfuls of clothing and the staff couldn’t do anything to stop them. The Conservatives pretty much decriminalised shoplifting.

@GottCarl @joe1alister @dailybritainonx Politics is one big grift. Payments from shady donors, payments from lobbyists, payments for speaking engagements. There are no poor politicians. Not to mention their gold-plated pensions after two years ‘service’. The only people they serve are themselves.

@dailybritainonx Just how does a woman, who not long ago lived in a former council house, has only ever had 2 jobs, a Union Rep and a Politician, just bought a £900K property, manage, surprising isn’t it ?

He flies on billionaire-funded private jets. His party is bankrolled by a Thai-based cryptocurrency investor who has given £12 million. He attended Trump's inauguration on £28,000 of donor money. The spectacle of Keir Starmer pretending to be the leader of a global coalition securing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, when the Royal Navy does not have a single reliable destroyer in the region, is quite something.
ITV News@itvnews

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is travelling to the Gulf to reiterate the UK's support for the newly agreed ceasefire between the US and Iran. He will hold talks with Gulf leaders on “practical efforts” to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. itv.com/news/2026-04-0… ITV News Political Editor @Peston is travelling with the PM

A short🧵for those insisting on a fiction: the Strait of Hormuz is not Iran’s sovereign toll gate, private cash machine, or maritime revenue stream. It is an international strait used by the world. Geography may give Iran a coastline on one side of it. It does not give Iran the right to invoice the rest of the planet for passage.

@JeremyNLowe62 @wesstreeting I’m so sorry Jeremy. Angela was a beautiful lady. She received appallingly, unprofessional treatment. I have my own painful story of loss because of NHS incompetence. It happens far too often in an overburdened system. The NHS isn’t fit for purpose.

Today has been heavy reading the raw ambulance and NHS stories people have shared in Angela’s thread today. Paramedics arriving furious and throwing a phone in frustration while a dying patient slid unsecured off the stretcher… phone triage refusing an ambulance for a baby in respiratory distress… dismissive laughter when a parent feared for their diabetic child… and long-term cover-ups with withheld SARs and spoiled records. These mirror exactly what happened to Angela: a paramedic discouraging her from calling 111, leading to a fatal delay. Zero feedback to staff = zero potential for improvement. This is not isolated — it’s systemic across ambulance services. I will keep speaking out until real change happens so no more families lose loved ones to these avoidable failures. Thank you to everyone who shared today. Our voices matter. Please share if you can. #AngelaLowe #PatientSafety #NHS

Angela Rayner is trying to rebrand as a serious statesperson by going sober. But the public has a memory. This is the woman who dodged stamp duty on her home. The woman whose party secretly spent tens of thousands of members’ money on a personal legal clean-up. The woman who spent years proudly performing the hard-drinking party animal image as a substitute for substance. Putting down the glass doesn’t put down the record. It’ll take considerably more than this to convince the British public she belongs anywhere near Downing Street.

@joshuasdad22 Labour getting into government has shown us we are powerless against overbearing politicians. They want to control every aspect of our lives. Individual freedoms are being chipped away. Green Party is even harder left and in an alliance with people who hate us. Terrifying stuff.

My absolute fear in the next 3 years. While the right are infighting over reform, restore and to a certain extent Advance uk, The greens are gathering traction. What if in 2029 we wake up to Dave Polanski as PM? How catastrophic would that be with his insane policies, the state would take your home from you and ' redistribute' it, something you've worked hard for all your life gone by the stroke of a pen. Hard drugs legalised, can you imagine the state of the country if he did that? I dont even want to contemplate it to be honest. And then there is reducing the voting age to 16, reforming the electoral system, and abolishing voter ID.  This is BAD really BAD, but what happens when he becomes PM when his second in command Mothin Ali 'overthrows' him then boom we have an islamist party with a practicing Muslim in charge of the whole of the uk. But it gets even worse, imagine every other single Muslim mp crossing the floor to join this Muslim party. Its unbearable to think about but this is what is happening right now and if we ALL don't get our shit together Britain will have fallen.

Just days ago, David Miliband was warning about the impending food crisis, conveniently ignoring how he and his brother created a legislative and policy framework that gutted our domestic fertiliser capacity. Now George Osborne is lecturing on defence and security, while glossing over the defence cuts and energy policies he championed. We are living with the direct consequences of the choices that entire political class made in the 2000s and 2010s.
George Osborne@George_Osborne

How does Britain actually fight a war? Who selects the targets? Where does the intel come from? Does the PM sit above it all or do they get involved in the detail of operations? Find out from those who were inside the room during the Libya conflict @polcurrency

I’m genuinely struggling to understand this. Ye is banned from the UK for saying offensive things. Meanwhile, a former ISIS terrorist, Ahmed al-Sharaa was shaking hands with Keir Starmer and King Charles III last week. One said mean things. The other chopped heads off. This does not make sense.

@DeeDee84276236 @KensingtonRoyal Very disappointing. I was hoping William would be the fresh start the RF needed. Wading into this controversy with his opinion is doing them no favours. There are many counter opinions that contradict his beliefs. We have seen fundamentalist Islam at work too. Far from peaceful.

@timmyvoe @Wilburgiles6 The Conservatives did the same with Net Zero. They were very incurious about the real-life impact on the economy and in lives. Philip Hammond apparently did tell Theresa May it would eventually cost trillions but she didn’t care. Posturing before the WEF is all they care about.

Labour are not on the side of the British public, If they were they'd have carried out impact assessments before implementing their policies, but they couldn't care less what impact they had. They are driven by ideology, Not our wellbeing

Two strange takeaways from the Waitrose sacking after 17 years of Walker Smith who tackled a shoplifter. 1) That the Left hasn’t demanded his reinstatement while the Tories have. Is he the wrong colour? 2) Thanks to Waitrose public statements every thief now knows to go into their shops and steal without retribution. A bloody awful decision by a bloody awful management.

I loathe almonds. And it seems they are terrible news for our planet’s ecosystem.👇 People sneak almonds into loads of otherwise delicious puddings. I’m not deadly allergic but they do make my tongue and lips swell. And they smell of cyanide. Almonds should come with both a health and environmental warning.
Sama Hoole@SamaHoole

Almonds are an environmental catastrophe. People hear that and assume you mean in some abstract, projected, 2050 kind of way. No. Present tense. Happening now. Today, while someone posts about their oat-and-almond-milk morning ritual and refers to it as 'conscious consumption.' - 1.1 trillion gallons of water used annually in California alone - 1,900 gallons required to produce a single pound of almonds - 10% of California's entire water supply consumed during historic drought conditions - Approximately 50 billion bees killed per year from pesticide and fungicide exposure during mass pollination events - Entire Central Valley sections converted to monoculture desert requiring permanent irrigation infrastructure - Fungicide cocktails applied during February bloom, peak bee vulnerability, routinely implicated in colony collapse - Almonds provide essentially no complete protein, moderate oxalate load, and require industrial processing to make palatable - Virtually every almond ever eaten has been shipped internationally at least once The person drinking almond milk in a reusable cup is, on balance, responsible for the deaths of more living creatures before 9am than a British beef farmer manages in a fortnight. But the cow breathed out, so.

Love the UK - Bring back common sense
Exactly this - my brother and his partner have 4 children. Neither my brother or his partner work. They claim housing, unemployment, PIP x 2, carers allowance etc. They have in excess of £3k a month in benefits. Last year they all went to Lanzarote for 10 days, they have family days out every 2 weeks, regularly go out for family meals and have all the gadgets you can imagine. His partner and their eldest 2 have their nails done every 3 weeks. They don’t want to work because in their words “work doesn’t pay and they will be worse off” - thanks to Labour, this family will now be rewarded with thousands more a year whilst we work more to fund their lavish lifestyle. Thats not reducing child poverty - it’s encouraging people to become reliant on the state. Rewarding people fully capable of work to sit at home and take from those that work. Their children were nowhere near the poverty line - and now, after Labours latest reward, they are planning a Summer holiday in Spain and an October break somewhere else, likely the Canaries again. So yeah, thanks Labour - I’m so ‘pleased’ that you enable these people to rub salt in the wounds of the working class - bravo 🙄

The former RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch warned people about #KeirStarmer before the election. Most of the media laughed it off. Many in Labour dismissed him. But he understood exactly what Starmer represented. Lynch said Starmer’s Labour was managerial, not political. A party run by lawyers, advisors, and communications professionals rather than people rooted in labour history, trade unions, industry, or working-class communities. A party that believed in management, not representation. Stability, not change. Administration, not politics. He warned that if Starmer won, Labour would not govern as a movement, but as a management team. If anything, Lynch understated it. What we have seen is not a political Prime Minister but an administrative one. Government by briefing note, by focus group, by legal framing rather than political vision. A Labour Party reshaped from a political movement into something closer to a corporate structure with MPs. Under Starmer, Labour has been changed more fundamentally than even under Blair. Blair at least had a political project. Starmer’s project has been control. Centralise the party. Remove internal opposition. Sideline unions. Purge members. Control candidate selection. Control messaging. Control policy. The result is a Labour Party that is now barely recognisable as a working-class party, and barely recognisable even as a democratic political party. It behaves more like an administrative arm of the state than a movement representing the people. Alongside this has come something else that should worry anyone who cares about civil liberties. Expanding surveillance powers. Restrictions on protest. Speech laws framed as safety. Increasing police powers. More powers for the state, fewer rights for the citizen. All passed in the language of responsibility and stability. This is managerial politics. Not leadership, not representation, not democracy in the traditional labour movement sense. Management of the population. Management of expectations. Management of decline. Mick Lynch saw a managerial Labour Party coming. What he didn’t see was a Labour Party rebuilt as a machine: centrally controlled, staffed with loyalists, a government with authoritarian instincts and no roots in the labour movement at all, parachuting in MPs with little to no experience outside political offices, hand-picked acolytes from outfits like Labour Together, selected not for independence or service to their communities, but for loyalty to the leadership. MPs whose first duty is not to their constituents, not to their country, but to the party machine and the people who control it. Labour didn’t win power for the people. Starmer won power for the global oligarchy and that little club he's been a member of since 2019... @PaulKnaggs , Labour Heartlands
