@Thevictoria76 Every piece of information you put in the hands of a third party online will at some point be leaked. Pooling thousands of gov issued IDs into an easily hacked database, like Discord, will lead to rampant identity theft and fraud.

@SandyofCthulhu Armor isn’t that heavy comparatively. Historically speaking, only heavy arms like axes and hammers had any real chance of doing damage through armor, swords and other edged weapons were more likely to deflect off and had to slip into gaps between joints.

One reason I believed RuneQuest was more realistic than D&D, and switched, was because of armor. It didn't make sense to me that armor made you "harder to hit". It seemed that armor, if anything, would make you easier to hit, because you'd be slower. Of course, the damage would be mitigated. This is how it works in RuneQuest (and Call of Cthulhu). Armor directly lowers incoming damage. So if you have ringmail (Armor 4), and are hit with a sword rolling 9 damage, only 5 penetrates, since 9 minus 4 is 5. Yes this does mean some targets (like dragons) are so heavily armored only a special or critical hit can damage them. Or something huge. But that made sense to me. I do understand the argument that "a hit on armor glances off, so only hits that avoid the armor cause damage" but as far as I can tell no one actually believes this in practice, in D&D.
