My article in The Friend about Quaker Chaplaincy is showing that we need to do more explanation for ⁦@BritishQuakers⁩ Links in the Video. A Call to Chaplaincy- are British Quakers ready to show up? (Can we cool off on the protest and PR?) youtu.be/YFLomrLr_P0

I strongly believe that British ale is a fundamental factor in our greatness. Timothy Taylor’s Landlord is one of the best.

@DavePiperDJ Yes I think you’re right. I’ve been guilty of that myself. Of course while things are “progressing” as you wish then people see this as right work of the Church. It is called as Faith in Action. Slowly and then suddenly the faith has been subsumed within Activism.

@QuakerEmma I wonder if managerialism is a risk we run in all sorts of groups, because part of our national psyche sees "professional" & "political" methods as the gold-standard? For instance, relying on opinion polls instead of actual attendance data, to decide if there's a "Quiet Revival"?

Managerialism and consultation leads to a hardline stance being taken on any given issue. Quakers centrally have ended up in hardline stances on a number of issues - peace, Palestine, sex and gender, veganism, eco-activism - which do not reflect what occurs in local Quaker meetings up and down the country. I hope Yearly Meeting this year, and ongoing, will involve much more corporate worship together and less managerialist structure. youtube.com/shorts/AJP6eng…

I do love @denbypottery - I do hope it survives. Just order a some new breakfast plates and mugs for fabulous Welsh breakfast. Bacon, eggs, cockles and laverbread on lovely buttered toast. Lots of coffee.

I am a patron of the arts! I contributed to a crowdfunder by poet, teacher and Quaker @RebeccaLeek_ to publish her poem Elizabeth Fry Stops By, about the legacy of Elizabeth Fry and following the formation of the @CUSocOfWomen. I now have five copies of this beautiful booklet

I've always hated beer. Can't drink the stuff. Way too bitter. I'm a cider girl. But I thought, if I go to the beer capital of the world and I still don't like it, at least I've tried. I couldn't finish my pint last night, but today I put on my big girl pants and finally managed to drink a whole pint. It's a lot smoother, less bitter.

Around a quarter of people in Wales can speak Welsh. But a far larger proportion has at least some Welsh from school. That should be a huge advantage. Instead, many learners come away feeling their Welsh isn’t quite right ✍️ @CymraegDoctor nation.cymru/opinion/were-t…

Thanks for caring about a character I created when I was 24 and a book I wrote when I was 33. I'm old now, still trying to come up with truthful stories, and glad to know that you've taken Ender Wiggin to heart. @thomas_garrard *I’m also happy to see how many fellow humans have volunteered to replace Grok in a book discussion. **And speaking of being old, I first posted this incorrectly. Grok may have to replace me.
Just T.J. the Army Vet@thomas_garrard

I just had a conversation with Grok about one of my all time favorite books “Ender’s Game” I had to talk to Grok, because I’ve never met anyone who’s read it, besides me. Lol. It’s a great book, though, if you’re ever so inclined.

@9LivesofSummer @ProudofusUK Many Quakers are as saddened by the sale of Cadbury as other Brits. I’ve only realised recently that it was Peter Mandelson who was Business Secretary at the time.

@ProudofusUK UK govt let US giant Kraft buy Cadbury promising it wouldn't close UK factories; then it closed them moved to Slovakia & changed recipe. USA blocked CAdbury takeover of Hershey years before! France has laws to block takeovers of cultural assets like Danone. SHAME ON BRITAIN!

A chocolate maker bought 120 acres of Birmingham slums. 🍫 His name was George Cadbury. He didn’t build a factory. He built a world. Every house had a garden. By law. Every single one. 🌿 Schools. Parks. Swimming pools. Cricket pitches. Pensions. Education during working hours. Workers’ committees that ran the factory floor. Then in 1900 he put the entire estate into a trust. 🏛️ It could never be sold for profit. Never broken up. Never privatised. Protected forever. It still exists today. Still run by the trust. One man proved that if you treat people well, they don’t just survive. They flourish. 🙏 Be part of us: proudofus.co.uk Be proud of us. 🇬🇧

The second raid on Westminster Quaker meeting house to arrest “Take Back Power” anarchists raised the same predictable howls of outrage from well to do Quaker sources. Ironically, us middle class Quakers hold powerful positions across the professions and charities, including 6 sitting MPs! Then I watched the dismal performance of @CatherineWest1 stumbling through a prepared speech and her snide comments about @geoffrey_cox. Even if you disagree with him, since when is this a Quaker approach to politics? Is this taking back power?

A shout out for new Quaker YouTube content from @andrewgray74 founder of Suffrago as a political tool based on Quaker principles. Mostly shorts of Andrew discussing Advices and Queries and especially business related themes. FATIMA’S UK CAMPAIGN – ON THE ROAD 🇬🇧 UK TOUR A safe, happy childhood is not a privilege. It is a birthright. Every child deserves love. Security. To be seen. Heard. Valued. For a child in care, one consistent adult can change the trajectory of a life. No child should grow up

@Jo_Frost @TheFlightStory @PaulCBrunson Really enjoying this interview Jo. It’s like catching up with an old friend. Loved your description as an old soul. And your thoughts on viewers complaining! If you’re thinking of doing a tour of live shows then do come back to the UK and come to Wales.

@QuakerEmma @CaplinIsobel @healthyleeds Alas, my wife @VereneNicolas agrees 100%. But Knox said it all: “the monstrous regiment of women”, and if only he’d been louder with his “trumpet blast”. Yet only last Sunday while she was away I ascended 1,000’ into the Kilpatrick hills … in pursuit of A MOST NOBLE QUEST.

My own experience of “Alpine divorce” phenomenon on our Cairngorms hike in 2014. At the Lairig Ghru bothy we met a German couple where the bloke was striding half a mile ahead of his girlfriend who was emphatically not enjoying the trip and his relentless machismo. Dangerous attitude in those circumstances.

Contrary to all of the abusive posts you are getting related to this, I agree. Mistar Urdd is an influential “figure” in the Welsh children’s landscape and is currently not keeping a neutral message in childhood gender issues. The ideological support from Plaid Cymru and Lib Dems for gender ideology means that there is not enough challenge.

It is most certainly true that you don't need to speak Welsh, to be Welsh! ...and yet, the things that we enjoy and love about Wales are the things kept alive by the old memories and old stories, the old close communities where everyone knew each other... and the old language. Whether you enjoy singing in the pub or the choir, whether you like your Welsh cakes old-school or with jam, whether you like cawl with or without cheese, whether you can sing all the words to Mae Hen Wlad Fy Ngadau or not. It's why we ask if you know so-and-so, why we love that bloke on the radio who can find a connection with any random caller... because it's more than just wanting to feel connected... it's wanting to find out and enjoy exactly how we ARE connected - through blood, or where you live. You might only enjoy the fruits of that old culture and old community and have no respect or interest in keeping it's roots going but the country you love will not be the same if they are left to waste away.
