Jaylen was barely top 30 in DARKO DPM, a metric actual NBA front offices use because it filters out box score inflation and measures real possession impact. Then you stack that with lineup data trends over a 4-year sample, weak AST/TOV, bad TOV%, constant ball stopping, limited processing/playmaking reads, atrocious off-ball defense, and playoff efficiency drop-offs, and the full picture becomes pretty obvious. And the on/off impact from this playoff run literally backs it up. White’s scoring efficiency cratered without Tatum (-13 TS swing) Tatum himself had a +13 point scoring swing and nearly +10 eFG swing with Jaylen OFF. Multiple role players had worse offensive environments next to Jaylens USG heavy creation, while the offense consistently stabilized around Tatum’s processing and advantage creation. You’re ignoring a massive sample because he put up solid numbers with a HISTORIC usg% in the regular season. That sounds nicer than talking about actual offensive ecosystem impact huh? And yes, 1 ring in this Eastern Conference landscape absolutely matters. Outside of 2022 vs the Warriors (which rightfully so, Tatum was a disaster), they’ve repeatedly come up short against teams they were favored over because the halfcourt offense eventually devolves into Brown tunnel vision and over usage. His 3rd grade handle turnovers, inability to make reads or break zone defense, and so many lost stagnant possessions against elite defenses. That’s not “hate,” that’s literally been the story of multiple playoff exits, it worked in 2024 because we were loaded and had no real competition, it’s time for CHANGE.
