@iwishcarswereal @Eric_Erins The amount of wormwood in absinthe was never enough to cause hallucinations, and opiates don't cause hallucinations at all. This myth was propaganda from the wine industry which was threatened by the competition from absinthe at the time.

@QuarrySquatter @Eric_Erins Wormwood, which was used in the absinthe mix, isn't used anymore, or at least not to the degree it used to be before the restrictions. Same with the opium additives.

@PussyBlaster10k @Eric_Erins @JustinWhang There is LESS wormwood allowed than before, but the wormwood was never causing hallucinations in the first place. This was entirely propaganda from the wine industry which was threatened by the competition at the time.

@isaacturnersong When I was a kid my mom let me "make" my own food from limited ingredients and I ate mustard in hot dog buns for an entire day until I puked and I couldn't eat mustard for ten years after that.

@Eric_Erins It's a 4Loko situation. They switched up the recipe. Used to have all kinds of crazy potions back then

@Eric_Erins I think it’s cause historic absinthe had a ton of additives that make you go bonkers

@Eric_Erins Idk man I had the real stuff in Prague and proceeded to float around the city for 5 hours in a sort of dreamlike state that can’t be attributed to alcohol and the dopamine hit of good urbanism alone.

@Eric_Erins Is this not just anti alcohol amidst a time of serious alcoholism and absinthe happened to be a popular drink at the time?

@georgecursor @Eric_Erins The original absinthe didn't cause hallucinations either. It was propaganda by the wine industry which was struggling to compete at the time due to crop failure.

@Eric_Erins We no longer have the original absinthe. Now it's just a strong drink. I had some in Prague, it's just an aromatic tsipouro.

@Eric_Erins Gotta do what most old school absinthe drinkers did and stack it with some opium or laudanum.

@hackedbracket @Eric_Erins I am pretty sure that wasn't a real absinthe 😂 I know the club, it has always been a tourist trap. And most of the "absinthe" sell in Czech shops is flavoured spirit, not a real absinthe.

@Eric_Erins That's because they stopped using the same ingredients that used to cause hallucinations.

@Eric_Erins I assume we can’t get the real absinthe these guys were ripping back then because the only absinthe I’ve had was basically just green grain alcohol
