Teachers receive 22 fewer weeks of full maternity pay than many other public sectors- including DfE officials. It's a major factor cited by woman in their thirties, who are leaving the sector in droves + hugely in tension with the govt's retention goals. tes.com/magazine/news/…

TLR part time! Has anyone had it raised to full wage given the new rules from 2026? I’ve requested 0.8 but no news yet.

So this is why women don’t have smear tests. The next 16 weeks available appointments (so that’s beyond feb half term). As a teacher this is impossible plus as a woman with a short cycle this is made harder .

Anyone study tourism at ks3? We’ve been given an extra lesson from another subject due to staffing and been ask to do Tourism (long story)! Can’t find anything in textbooks etc! Thanks

@MissCatnach I also find it really hard to do certain types of work like data analysis in the evening when I’m shattered, it’s like a constant guilt battle. Xx

The hardest thing so far about mum/work life is that I just do not have the capacity for the work related things I want to do like webinars and reading education blogs/articles. It's early days but even just surviving the day-to-day workload is pushing me to my limits right now.

@QueenGeog Ive decided to sit all my highest attainers together and give an ESQ for each task the rest of the class do so its all applied knowledge.

I have 5 students in my year 11 capable of a grade 9... what strategies can I implement to push and challenge them both in and out of class?

@GeeTheExplorer This is my challenge at the moment, 2 classes of 30, handful at the top, grade 2-3 about 60%, handful at the very bottom. Really challenging

For context the other 20 are grade 2-5 students. So its not possible to "teach to the top" as I'd lose the others!

Any advice to help improve results rapidly? QA of teacher is deemed good by external obs and internal (we are seen 2-3 times a week supportive). Yet in the actual exams they just don’t even write anything?!

@manfrombootle @MissCatnach I avoid going in on results day - emotionally I hate it. I still check the results etc but looking at those who work hard but don’t get the results disappoint me xx

@MissCatnach I've never gone in for results day in 15 years of teaching and don't think I've missed out on anything at all. I'm in that building for a large part of the year so I'm not going in on my holiday!

For the first time in my career, I'm not going in for results day today - I've decided to extend our holiday in the Lakes instead with my tiny baby (and fiancé!) ❤️ It was a hard call to make, but I know it's the right one. Wishing all students and teachers the best of luck! 🙏🏼
