The way that people will go 'well this specific warning/adjustment isn't something I personally need, therefore it is ridiculous'. My loves, my dears, my sweet children, I am begging you to engage with the fact that people who are not you exist in this world.

I hear that people on the internet are upset that a theatre is warning people about latex balloons. I would like to (without evidence) take personal responsibility and claim this as a career highlight. Next I would like you to warn for all flashing lights (not just strobes)

Neurodivergent sensitivity to injustice is gonna give me a heart attack if i don’t find a better way to roll with it. I think I like many of my besties here am an extreme case. Hyperfocused on the wrongness. Counsel from other autistic and ND folks welcomed.

Access clash doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens in the context of power dynamics and social relations that privilege specific ways of being in the world. You can have access needs that the world supports.

If I have to email event organizers to ask for accessibility info, it means I have to ask, "am I welcome?" Consider how it feels to have to do that, knowing the majority of the time, the answer is "no." Give access info up front. Don't make disabled people beg for inclusion.

One of many reasons we say accessibility is not a checklist is b/c it can be so highly detail/situation specific. What might be accessible in one context might not be in another. If you can’t adapt when that’s pointed out then you aren’t planning for accessibility.

I am literally begging that if you see someone in a mask in a small space with you, instead of saying “do you want me to mask?” Just say “oh let me put a mask on!” That way it’s courteous and not putting the person masked in a position where they have to say yes

The coworker training me got upset when I told her I mask because im immune compromised and can't afford to take on another disability due to covid. Mind you another coworker is out because her daughter got a mystery illness that caused a young and healthy person to have a stroke

If you’re hosting a major conference, please dont delegate accommodations coordination to a novice grad student. That way when I get frustrated at inept interpreter coordination, it’s not seen as a tenured professor bullying a grad student. My job depends on good coordination

Happy Pride Month! Please wear a mask if you’re going to a crowded event this month, both to make things more accessible for disabled and chronically ill LGBTQIA peeps & for your own safety #CovidIsNotOver 🏳️‍🌈

Witnessing the hybrid book launch of Activist Affordances by @arselidok organized by @AccessMaking - and I might cry, not only because the insights into the book touch my crip life deeply, but also because of the simple fact that the audience and the speakers are wearing masks.
