I paid my aunt with crypto and she doesn’t know it to this day.
(btw, she sells foodstuff at the local market and has zero crypto knowledge whatsoever)
Here’s how that happened ⬇️
I’ve been telling her about “Bitcoin” for two years now… and every time I get the same side-eye stare 👀
The one that says you’ve joined one scheme and you’ll soon be asking her for money.
(If you’ve ever tried to talk to a millennial about crypto, you’d know what I mean)
So this time I said nothing.
I just bought pepper and tomatoes (and some of my usual items for stew), opened @surfcashx, scanned the PalmPay code taped to her table, and paid.
Her phone did the thing it always does.
That PalmPay alert.
“Credit alert” and the amount, landing in the same account she’s used since and she didn’t even know the same crypto she lowkey condemned was involved.
To her, a customer paid. Normal Tuesday.
What actually happened is my $USDC left my wallet…
got converted…
and reached her as naira in about half a minute…
No middleman held the money…
No agent fee cut off her side…
She got the full amount, in the app she already trusts.
And that’s when I finally understood something many big influencers have been saying since.
Crypto adoption was never going to arrive by convincing my aunt to download a wallet and write down twelve words.
She’s not going to do that, and honestly she shouldn’t have to 🤷🏽♂️
It arrives when she never has to know.
She didn’t have to learn about all of that tech.
she just sees the money she was already expecting.
She thinks nothing happened last week.
Something did haha.
It was fun.
After paying her for months through crypto, I’ll expose my secret to her and see her expression by then.
