On May 3rd, 2026, in Garland, Texas, a father was parked with his family, eight people including children, when a suspect began a violent carjacking spree in the area, crashing into multiple vehicles before approaching their car. As the suspect approached, the family fled the vehicle while the father engaged in a physical struggle with the suspect. The suspect continued his assault, refusing to stand down and persisting in his attempt to steal the vehicle. As the encounter escalated, the father fired his weapon, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Garland Police have said they do not expect to file criminal charges against the father and are treating the shooting as an act of self-defense, while the investigation remains ongoing.
