Mitochondrial-associated epilepsy is often progressive and difficult to control. Here, Albert Quintana @albert_qr78 & @QuintanaLab @UABBarcelona @INC_UAB @BCFI_UAB uncover how faulty brain wiring drives mitochondrial epilepsy in a #LeighSyndrome mouse model, proposing ways to stop seizures in otherwise untreatable childhood cases: doi.org/10.1172/JCI187… The figure shows three patterns of neuronal activation (indicated by c-Fos protein expression) in response to fatal epileptic events in mice lacking the NDUFS4 subunit of mitochondrial complex I in Gad2-expressing GABAergic neurons.
