Day 5 of my 10 day fast. I'm past the rough part which is always the first three days or so. Now I'm in the glide stage. I do not suffer from hunger or fatigue or any kind of discomfort. Now my metabolism has switched completely. Intrusive dreams of eating food at night, though.

This was an old 4chan theory years ago, and there’s probably at least some truth to it. The HOA phenomenon started in the 1970’s, but didn’t become really ubiquitous until the mid 1990’s.

@tkmontani @zarathustra5150 Some really good points here. I was including blame with suburban sprawl and big single contractor plats putting up bigger ticky tacky houses on smaller lots... But that's more like a consequence of what you've identified in the changes to modern economics anyway...

Home as store of value and investment, rather than someting to be passed on. Socio-economic attitudes. Municipalities like HOA's because they carve out areas of economic prosperity by maintaining home/neighborhood value which goes to perceptions of affluence (important for the middle class and politicians). HOA's as a managed portfolio of tax paying assets.

Plats full of ticky tacky houses managed by a single contractor are where HOAs come from since the 60s Smaller lots & yards with bigger houses. Less privacy, more management
