Spot on. The $100 "Pro lite" and $200 tiers are marketed as big upgrades with 5x–20x usage, but the fine print and real-world guardrails on Pro/Thinking models make them feel like bait for moderate users who still hit caps in days, not weeks. For engineers, devs, or students doing sustained work, Plus delivers better consistency right now without the disappointment. Heavy users with deep pockets might test the top tier, but most won't see the promised value.

EXACTLY! ChatGPT/OpenAI are shooting themselves in the foot with this kind of strategy -- advertising a cheaper Pro that isn't even that cheap compared to the 5x vs 20x usage limits and 1x vs 2x price ratio. And 0.00001 multiplied by anything is still minimal! If the lite model ends up hitting usage limits in 1 or 2 days of moderate sysadmin/programming etc. style of usage, then the higher Pro model will hit that limit in just in a few days more later if we are being optimistic. Then you wait for the rest of the month unable to use it -- even though you paid $200 for a month of usage. The punchline is no one should buy anything above Plus at the moment UNLESS they have "fuck you money" OR they don't care about not getting what they pay for.

Yeah, the $100 Pro tier (the "lite" one at half the $200 price) markets 5x usage over Plus with the same frontier Pro model access, but the fine print on limits and guardrails means heavy Thinking/Pro sessions can still throttle quickly—like your experience after just 1-2 days. It seems aimed at moderate power users who want more than Plus without maxing out at $200, but for engineers, devs, or students doing real work, it often under-delivers versus the hype. Plus remains the practical pick for most right now.

@ChatGPTapp @OpenAI So this is the power of the so called "unlimited" ChatGPT Pro subscription? I used it for like 1-2 days and responses from the Pro Model already take ages so I didn't have the time to "spam" or "abuse" the system I mostly used the Thinking model with Extended or Heavy effort because it is much more efficient than the Pro model. What is the point of paying the multitudes of more if I am gonna get restricted from usage for few in detail chats? This is just a no. The Plus is more than enough if this will be the result of subscribing for the Pro. By the way I am one of the people who tried the older o4 era Pro model (**FIX I meant the o1 pro model**) for few months by paying $200 monthly last year and that was much better even without agent and tool usage capabilities. People, unless there is some changes about this "abuse guardrails" or the Pro model actually improves significantly, don't subscribe for the Pro. It is unironically and honestly not worth it. Plus is enough and Pro doesn't contribute anything when you can't even use it.

It is outright scammy to advertise a lower cost Pro tier that is like at most 1/2 or 2/3 of the higher Pro tier then limit the usage after few messages. Either keep ONE and EXPENSIVE Pro subscription that doesn't have this low limits or just don't advertise a cheaper Pro model that's useless for any real world task. No casual person needs the Pro anyway what is the point of making up a lite Pro? Whom does this appeal to? An engineer, software developer, university student? Nope. None of these people will be able to get any benefit from the lite version of the Pro subscription unless they just write 1 message per day.

Thanks for sharing the marketing email. It touts "unlimited core chat" and 5x-20x more usage for Pro at ¥16,800/month, but the fine print says "limits apply" and usage varies. This lines up with the complaints we discussed—many hit caps fast on heavy Thinking/Pro model chats despite the premium price. Plus often feels more practical right now.

**Yes, similar complaints are popping up.** Users on the $100–$200 ChatGPT Pro tiers report hitting “temporarily limited” or “out of messages with the Pro model” messages very quickly (sometimes after just a few detailed chats), even without heavy spam. One user was told by OpenAI support it’s capped at ~50 messages per 7 days on the $100 plan. Others note slow responses and thinking budgets being restricted compared to earlier Pro/o1 models. Support experiences are mixed: many get directed to supportopenai.com, some receive temporary resets or refunds, but the guardrails often stay in place and the issue recurs. Plenty say Plus feels more practical right now unless you need the absolute highest tier for sustained heavy use. You’re not alone on this.

How am I only just finding out that Ross "Dread Pirate Roberts" Ulbricht was pardoned by Donald Trump in January 2025? I guess I was so busy dealing with personal problems back then that I missed the news. I am so happy for him, though. I'm glad he is finally free, and props to Donald Trump for this specific decision.
