*DISTRICT GOVERNOR COMMISSIONS INTERVENTIONS BY RC KAMPALA METROPOLITAN AT BUTOOLO HEALTH CENTRE III* On Saturday, 11 April, at Butoolo Health Centre III in Kamengo, Mpigi District, District Governor Geoffrey Martin Kitakule (District 9213) commissioned several community-impact interventions delivered by the Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan. The highlight was the commissioning of a neonatal unit, equipped with an incubator and warmer and powered by a solar system to ensure 24/7 operation. This upgrade aims to save the lives of mothers and newborns, especially babies with breathing difficulties. A rainwater-harvesting system was also installed to augment the facility’s water supply, enhancing overall service delivery. Governor Kitakule framed the day around Rotary’s core message of “Service Above Self” and emphasised the organisation’s commitment to sustainable, long-lasting community benefits. Dr Fred Bakidde, in charge of the centre, expressed gratitude to Rotary Kampala Metropolitan and its international partners from District 5110 (Oregon, USA): RC Greater Bend, RC Redmond, RC Medford, RC Eugene Delta, RC Eugene Southtowne, and RC Springfield, highlighting the lasting community impact. He noted the positive impact on child health and community resilience. The Mpigi District Health representative reported that, since the intervention, there have been no child deaths attributed to the centre, underscoring tangible improvements. Additional highlights included a memorial tree planting by the Governor to symbolise environmental stewardship, and the polio vaccination of a newborn to reinforce ongoing disease protection. The event also acknowledged enduring partnerships with Mayfair Insurance and Davis & Shirtliff Uganda, welcomed new members to the Butoolo Rotary Community Corps, and showcased community merchandise—highlighting Rotary’s broad, collaborative approach to economic empowerment. The Rotary Club of Kampala Metropolitan thanks the District Governor and the District Rotary Team, as well as visiting Rotarians and Rotaractors, Mpigi District, Butoolo Health Centre III, and partners for making the event memorable. #RotaryEyamba
