Dark stressed that this American vote results from steps taken by the United States over the past four years, culminating in Donald Trump’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara at the end of his first term. He said this recognition took relations between the two countries to an unprecedented level. He pointed out that this position demonstrates real diplomacy within the Security Council, which—if it had denied or ignored Morocco’s sovereignty—would contradict previous understandings. Dark emphasized that this political path reflects the acumen of Morocco’s leadership and the clear vision of King Mohammed VI, as well as the ability of the royal diplomatic apparatus to implement the autonomy model effectively and on the ground. In his interview with Assabah, Dark explained that the current international dynamic opens the door to a peaceful and lasting settlement. He added that U.S. support enhances diplomatic pressure to persuade Algeria to accept dialogue and sit at the negotiation table, considering that continued intransigence is no longer in its interest nor that of the region.
