They don’t call it Iceberg Alley for nothing! As the ‘bergs roll in, it’s a great time to get out enjoy the view… from a safe distance, of course. Icebergs can be unstable and unpredictable, sometimes rolling or breaking apart without warning. It can be a very dangerous situation for anyone in the water nearby. If you’re viewing from a vessel on the water, be sure it’s from a safe distance and choose a reputable operator who knows the area well. Prefer to spot them from shore? Stay at least 100 metres back, obey all signage and come prepared. Shorelines and rocks can be slippery. Proper footwear, warm clothing and being aware of your surroundings can help keep your visit safe. Icebergs are a remarkable sight to behold for locals and tourists alike - visit the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s official resource at icebergfinder.com for a full list of where to safely find the best ‘bergs of the season! #SafetySaturday

It’s Safe Boating Awareness Week, and while the water is still chilly here in Newfoundland and Labrador, it’s never too early to get ready for a safe boating season. 🚣‍♀️ No matter what size vessel you’re in, a life jacket or personal floatation device can save your life. It’s also the law! Anyone found without an available, appropriate, personal flotation device (PFD) or life jacket may be ticketed. Always boat sober. Impaired operation is the same offence whether you’re driving a boat or a car – and it has the same consequences. Boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a choice that poses an unnecessary and unacceptable risk to you, your passengers and others sharing our waters.
