Day 11, of #NonoNovember, & another of his extraordinary anti-war musical interventions, for this Remembrance season. One of my absolute favourites, commissioned by the Edinburgh Festival, *Canti di Vita e d'Amore*, here in the initial recording from 1962 youtube.com/watch?v=w4i8lC…
For Day 2 of #NonoNovember, the day Christians say Mass for the dead, we focus on the weightiest - and most personal - of all the atheist Nono's musical responses to death. *Como una ola de fuerza y luz* (1972) has been often described as a secular requiem

🎨Ganed Kyffin Williams ar y dydd hwn yn 1918. Wedi’i eni yn Llangefni, mae’n cael ei ystyried fel un o brif arlunwyr Cymru yn ystod yr 20fed ganrif. Mae corff sylweddol o'i waith yma.

I was lucky enough to be at @WelshNatOpera’s Death in Venice tonight, it was fabulous, but mostly I was moved by the sensitivity and virtuosity of the orchestra, under threat of a 15% pay cut-7 weeks less work a year. Please do sign this to support them.

Happy birthday Imogen Holst, born this day 1907. Composer, conductor and educator: she lived a musical life. She wrote books, formed choirs & conducted orchestras when it was rare to see a woman in the podium, and her music is increasingly being discovered and performed today.
Something I have learned from my own advanced stage cancer and now in the midst of my Dad’s terminal cancer. You don’t need someone to tell you to keep your chin up, or ‘stay positive’ or tell you about their friend’s cousin’s hairdresser’s Aunty who cured their cancer by wafting leaves of kale over their body… sometimes you just need someone to tell you, I know this is so shit but you are doing so well, despite it all, and I’m so proud of you. ♥️
Birmingham! A big night at Grand Union Folk Club with us and the mighty Elizabeth Still, Fri 26 April. AND before the gig I’ll be teaching some May songs and you should come to that bit too… lynx in the bio because I’m being repressed The Great Divorco 🙄
