@GraeHail @TA_ED50 Hi, I do find it sad to see that this is truly common in athletic programs favoring the white students then all minorities simply highlighting the race then the overall students' gift in their sport. @TA_ED50

In the SFFA v. Harvard case, it was exposed that Harvard had developed practices that favored white students when it came to admitting them into their athletic programs; creating a huge discriminatory gap and disadvantage to non-white applicants. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

The Importance of Understanding Admissions Policies the article emphasizes the need to scrutinize supposedly race-neutral admissions policies, including preferences for recruited athletes, legacy applicants, dean's preferences, and children of faculty and staff. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@trinbans @KatryaLy Student athletes are already juggling a lot on their plate and yet expected to complete it to their best performance. In many of their cases their mental health is decreasing and they're no longer prioritized and affect their studies, performance and overall well being. @TA_ED50

It's Disheartening to see that student athletes cannot promote their own name. They can't proceed in getting brand deals, working with athletic wear, and etc yet the athletics department is making revenue based on their name and they get nothing in return. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@trinbans @KatryaLy Hi trinity, I find it disheartening as well that women still have to put in more work than men in order to be recognized and reach higher status. I also think it's unfair they have such a big pay gap making it harder for women to reach such success. @TA_ED50

The history of cheerleading began before world war II, it began as men who were yell leaders. Then developed cheerleading as a feminized hallmark of mens sports. Cheerleaders contribute to the collegiate ideal representing the mascot, school colors and songs. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@amieucr @abhornUCRedu Hi Amie it's sad to see the demographics of how racially non supporting teammates can feel. This can be as one teammate is singled out just because of his or her race. All teammates are deserving of support from each other. @TA_ED50

team sports can help with peoples thoughts on diversity. white athletes with black teammates have a more positive outlook on black people vs white athletes in solo sports #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

In most sports African American women are labeled as the "model Minority". People think this is such a compliment but it couldn't be more backhanded. This term is a misappropriated term to all groups of color saying one group of color is better than the other. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@stephanieW010 @KatryaLy Hi Stephanie, The overall Climate of a student athlete isn't always supported in his or her time during college. I believe each of these students' stories should be shared and encouraged in practice. This will help the athletics department branch out .@TA_ED50

It’s important about organizational climate and culture in intercollegiate athletics. The differences between these concepts of IAC, goals, policies, and practices related to college sports. How do they relate to behavior within the field of athletics students? #ucr50 @KatryaLy

College athletes find themselves putting their health last, for example college athletes are more likely to use drugs if it's going to help them win. Overall putting their sport ahead of their health for better play? Some coaches would encourage this behavior. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

@lprec009 @abhornUCRedu Hi Leila, I agree with you that the mental health of a student athlete can really affect them. they tend to feel alone and not have a lot of support. This can be so overwhelming for them especially if they have a little to no support system.@TA_ED50

Not only do student athletes have to manage being a student and an athlete. Most of them have to meet a certain criteria prior to becoming an athlete. In High school they have to have a GPA of a 2.5 or higher and if they don't they better score a 820 on their SAT. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@aqazeem03 @abhornUCRedu Hi, I agree with you as the weight of being a student and an athlete can be hard to navigate. It can also be extremely difficult if everyone around you says to focus on one more than the other. The photo shows great imagery of that. @TA_ED50

With respect to athletics and academics, it is fair to say that the need of ability in sports is more significant than progress in higher Education. #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

Just like in the NFL, Colleges also have season tickets. In 2013 most colleges required fans to make donations to the athletic department prior to buying season tickets. They did this so they can use it in their taxes. Not for the better of the students. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@arianyp14 @abhornUCRedu Hi Ariany, when i was reading about this as well it was very disheartening. I feel that a student who is just as engaged in their education and also plays sports should get as much support rather than a student who just plays well.

I am absolutely in shock by how the university presidents act like they do not hear anything in regards to athletics and their education. They encourage the coaches to get student who play sports good to give their school publicity. #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

The term "student Athlete" was viewed in a negative manner untillThe NCAA thought that the pharse would be more fitting than college athlete. In 2005 The NCAA finally gifted student athletes grants and aid as they were to help them be students then athletes. #ucr50 @TA_ED50
