This morning's #ReportOnJObs is the best it has been for some time - June saw the strongest temp market tend in three years, while perm returned to nearly flat. There is demand there - what is needed now is the confidence to invest in meeting it. (1/)

July's #ReportOnJobs points to further signs of stabilisation in the labour market. 🔹 Temp billings rose at the fastest rate in three years. 🔹 Permanent placement declines eased for the third month running. 🔹 Pay growth reached its highest level since January. Objectively, the 3rd place play-off is ridiculous - but it so often plays this role as the World Cup’s all star game. That’s why it should stay. Top notch entertainment.

@iain_mac @ScotlandNT I genuinely think they phrased that tweet “will depart the Scottish FA” because they know we think they are capable of that…. Because they are.

@RECNeil Wait until they announce he's departing the U21s to take over the @ScotlandNT job. 😜

If we’re still using oil and gas (which we are) importing it instead of producing it at home doesn’t change the climate impact. It does change who gets the jobs, who gets the tax revenues to fund our public services and who controls our energy security and national resilience. This is absolutely the right call.

@RECNeil Will it contain labour market regulation? Since DE was incorporated into DfEE there has been a lack of an integrated labour market policy area. & what was pay & industrial relations went to business dept but since then there has been a lack of integrated labour market policy.

@HaydnBelfield The DSIT merger stuff is weird - but I was commenting on getting a more activist biz department.

@HaydnBelfield Reynolds was active and engaging with businesses, broadly did a good job facing the trump tarrifs and industrial strategy and went into bat for business with other parts of govt. Less strong on ERA, but the then DPM was in the driving seat there.

📣 A personal update 📣 Over the next few months, I'll be taking time away to recover from heart surgery. My brilliant team will continue the good work in my absence. Thank you all for your understanding. I look forward to coming back soon with even more energy! 💪

From tax, to the Employment Rights Act, to procurement approaches, more practicality and pragmatism is needed - not ideology that damages workers and businesses alike. @RECPress @RECmembers (3/3)

While the month-to-month data is affected by bank holidays and a summer seasonal uptick, the year-on-year data is clear. Employers are trying to get on with it. With a new Prime Minister coming into post the message from business is - back us, don’t hold us up. (2/)
