PRH having a slew of layoffs just months after S&S did theirs is just so disheartening. It’s hard not to feel jaded. I feel so bad for all my editorial colleagues and for the fact that Dial BYFR has been completely shuttered. We need books. Children need books.

@ReaganFaerwyn Slush pile is a common industry term, I did not make the term up and it's not disrespectful. Please remember that for every good query there are 3 in my inbox that say "My book is groundbreaking, that's the whole pitch" or are 200K words, or specifically are out of my scope.

@PilotingSR I don't want to see decapitations and eviscerations described in detail. "A knife cut through his abdomen" is fine. Explaining how it looked and felt and smelled to see his guts spilled out is not.

@REstepLit Hey there, I hope this is okay to ask; but your MSWL says you like deadly trials, but aren't a fit for gore. I'm curious what line you draw between the two? Is it continuous, overly graphic depictions of violence that is a no, or trial appropriate description as well? Thanks!
