Following the 2026 BAFTA ceremony, rugby league journalist John Davidson has been charged with a Grade F offence of “unacceptable language based on national or ethnic origin” and issued with an eight-match stadium ban.

Just like with Harry Smith in 2024, the RFL could avoid any controversy like this by only having offences in Super League matches be punished with bans for Super League matches and not internationals. Or even better have the World Club Challenge before the season starts.

Following his team’s fixture on 12th February 2026, Hull KR player Mikey Lewis has been charged with a Grade C offence of tripping and issued with a two-match penalty notice.
At the request of Hull KR, this will be served in the club’s home games against Bradford and Castleford.

At an appeal hearing, Wigan player Harry Smith successfully challenged a tribunal’s grading of an incident that incurred an initial three-match penalty notice. The incident was re-graded to a Grade C offence and the sanction reduced to a half-match (40mins) penalty notice.

@RFL_Discipline Deliberate and meditated professional foul which should warrant a severe penalty. You cannot choose which matches he serves the penalty, the sanction should be immediate and serve as a suitable. deterrent to prevent any further petulant acts.

At the request of Hull KR and to give them the best preparation for the World Club Challenge, the Match Review Panel will convene at 10:30am today (Saturday 14th February) to review any on-field disciplinary incidents from their fixture against York Knights.
