@iamritu as you know, aortic repair is a risky operation with a lot of complications, like stroke, MI, death. One needs a randomized trial to know what is best choice. Most people with 5.0 cm aortas will not have a dissection.

Yesterday for Father’s Day, I remembered my father, who lived well into his 90s without obsessing over wellness trends. Instead he walked every day, ate well, stayed socially connected, and found purpose. The fundamentals are simple. The wellness industry makes them complicated. I wrote about this for @Fortune: fortune.com/2026/06/21/zek…

When I was a nursing student at Hostos, I could not picture where this path was going. Tomorrow I go back to show someone else what the destination looks like. Hostos Community College was born in 1968 because the South Bronx fought for it. Puerto Rican and Black residents of the poorest congressional district in the country demanded a college that would serve them. They nearly lost it in the 1976 fiscal crisis. A movement called La Lucha saved it. Today 55% of Hostos students are the first in their families to attend college. Nearly all are on financial aid. About 73% are from the Bronx. Most speak a language other than English at home. That was me. I arrived from Venezuela at 16. Hostos is where I became a nurse. The research, the fellowships, the lab at NIH. All of it started in that building on the Grand Concourse. The Hostos nursing program produced Celina Sotomayor, Class of 1973. Her daughter became a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. The same program produced me. A nurse scientist at the National Institutes of Health and a member of the National Academy of Medicine. A community college in the South Bronx did that. Community colleges train the majority of new nurses in this country. The AAS in Nursing is the fastest route to licensure for students who work full time, support families, or cannot relocate or afford to start with a BSN. It is also where the profession stays connected to the communities that need nurses most. Tomorrow I go back for Nurses Day 2026. We are going to talk about nursing, science, leadership, and what it takes to build a career when nobody handed you the roadmap. If you are in the Bronx, come. Tuesday May 5th, 2026 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM D Savoy Building, Hostos Community College All are welcome. Nurses Week starts Wednesday. This is how I am starting mine. #NursesDay2026 #NursesWeek2026 #Hostos #CUNY #NurseScientist #NursingScience #BronxToNIH #LatinaInScience #LeadFromDayOne #SouthBronx

Influencers want to sell advice so they can make money, not so you can be healthy. This is the Wellness Industrial Complex hard at work. Eating well and exercising keep us healthy, and they do not involve spending a ton of money. wwnorton.com/books/97813241…

No trial better explains the importance of evidence than REVIVED BCIS. It boggles my mind that it was negative @divaka_perera is correct, but try telling 99% of American cardiologists We still cath new LV dys pts TO FIND LESIONS TO REVASC despite negative trials #ESC2025
Gregorio Tersalvi@GTersalvi

@divaka_perera makes a strong case: routine #PCI should not be performed in asymptomatic pts with LV dysfunction (even with viability). It does NOT improve prognosis ‼️ Evidence should guide practice: The earth is not flat 🌎 #ESCCongress @escardio @drjohnm

Great to work with my @UCSFDOM colleagues on this work, illustrating the importance of safety and effectiveness data before clinical use and ideally, before @FDADeviceInfo approval.

In a new Perspective, Benjamin Hyams, BA, Karla Kerlikowske, MD, and Rita F. Redberg, MD (@RFRedberg), write that AI mammography aids are being sold as additions to mammography screening, with direct-to-consumer marketing touting improved cancer-detection rates, despite a lack of evidence of clinical effectiveness.
