Two months working in as scientist outside academia and I just published my first industry document. On your face year(s)-long academic publication system. 😂

Two guys come in to an ER. One has COVID. He’s sicker than he thought this would make him. Crashes pretty quickly. Docs and nurses do everything to help him. He needs ICU. Wasn’t vaccinated. Not a hard core anti vaxer. Just didn’t think he’d really need it, COVID not so bad.

What we learned in 2020? That oil is worthless in a society without consumption. That healthcare has to be public because heath is public. That 50% of jobs can be done from home while the other 50% deserve more than they’re being paid. That we live in a society, not an economy.

@RGLoreto I’m with you! I just quit my job that requires 2-3 weeks per year. I am going to start teaching high school this fall. Much better schedule for my family. Congrats on the little one!

I was offered a great position except that it required 1-2 months traveling 2-3x year. I needed to chose between that and spending time with my 16 months old son. I have never had my priorities so straight: I declined the offer. Still unemployed, still looking for opportunities.

@RGLoreto I would have done the same... 25-50% of time away from home seems way too much for anyone but even more so for young parents. Good luck on your job hunt !

I lost the rights to unemployment benefits because .... shockingly... I don't have a job. Oh, dear France, you make me love NL more and more!

I went from BSc (4.5years) to MSc (2y) to PhD (4.5y) to 1st postdoc (2y) to 2nd postdoc (3y) to unemployed (1 month so far). For the first time, I am having a break from academia. Feels awful and good at the same time. Considering not going back, but then what?
