Interesting look at how the NCAAโ€™s new age based eligibility rule will affect college cross country rosters going forward. More than a quarter of 2025 All Americans (many of them international athletes) would have been too old to compete.

More than a quarter of the men's All-Americans at 2025 NCAA XC would have been ineligible under the NCAA's new eligibility rules. But in the short term, we could see even more older international athletes. Spoke to some top coaches for their thoughts: letsrun.com/news/2026/07/tโ€ฆ

So excited to have Coach Cope join the Furman Track & Field coaching staff! Coach Cope joins the Paladins to lead our sprints, hurdles & jumps after seven successful seasons at Samford, where she coached 4 All-Americans and helped the Bulldogs win 15 SoCon team championships.

@Gmoney72ca I understand the frustration, but extremes wonโ€™t move us forward. International athletes bring tremendous value to our teams & campus. At the same time, taxpayer-funded institutions should serve American students. Fairness & diversity arenโ€™t mutually exclusive. We can have both

"Age matters... An 18-year-old entering college directly from high school is not competing on equal footing with a 24- or 25-year-old who has spent years training, competing and physically maturing. The difference is not simply athletic. It is physiological, psychological and experiential." trackandfieldnews.com/op-ed-college-โ€ฆ

Great insights on NCAA eligibility from one of the top coaches in NCAA Cross Country & Track, Furman University's @RGary2 in @tandfn (link to article in replies) "I worry that we are slowly losing sight of why college sports exist in the first place"

College sports werenโ€™t created to build professional teams. They were created to teach life lessons through sport. As we reshape the NCAA, we canโ€™t lose sight of that purpose. Proud to create those opportunities at FURMAN ๐Ÿค๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’œ trackandfieldnews.com/op-ed-college-โ€ฆ

@wmcraven @USTFCCCA You are 100% right. The USTFCCCA Exec Committee did support the proposalโ€ฆI misspoke about was who killed it. The NCAA Sport Oversight Committee did not to advance the recommendation, effectively killing the legislation where it should have been championed. I want to know why.

@RGary2 @USTFCCCA Rita - this is simply not true. Iโ€™m looking at the minutes right now. It was passed by the executive committee unanimously.

I proposed nearly identical legislation at the @USTFCCCA convention last year. It was OVERWHELMINGLY approved by coaches, then ignored by our exec committee; many of whom were practicing the roster-building this legislation addresses. This demands a discussion on leadership. ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป

Actually, we (@USTFCCCA D1 Executive Committee) voted UNANIMOUSLY in favor of this legislation. Even gave specific considerations to closing loopholes within our sport(s) to ensure continuity on all fronts. Youโ€™re trying to villainize people that are overall in agreement w/ you.

Vastly overpaying non-professional students who participate in NCAA sports at the expense of the universityโ€™s core mission has nothing to do with athletes' rights... It has everything to do with the commissions of the athletes' representation.
