RHAWA is actively supporting GRE Downtowner LLC, d/b/a Addison on Fourth, v. City of Seattle, a major Court of Appeals case involving the cumulative impact of Seattle housing regulations on affordable rental housing. At stake is a basic principle: housing policy should keep housing safe for residents without making it impossible to operate, preserve, or provide. When that balance is lost, affordability, long-term housing stability, and tenant safety are put at significant risk. GRE argues that a series of Seattle ordinances adopted in rapid succession undermined the ability to manage affordable housing effectively, protect residents, and maintain stable operations over time, and resulted in an unconstitutional taking of its property. Sean Flynn, Executive Director and Board President of RHAWA, said: “RHAWA is optimistic about GRE’s continued fight and fully supports housing policy that is lawful, balanced, and sustainable.
