#UKSF25 complete, brilliant to chat with so many delegates about our work prioritising stroke nursing in Scotland. Great to grow our membership with many nurses signing up to have a voice moving stroke nursing forward in Scotland. @ScotStrokeNurse @Z1NURSE

This is a brilliant film shining a spotlight on stroke and thrombectomy. It’s incredible moving and demonstrates the need for 24/7 access across the UK to this groundbreaking and cost effective treatment #StrokeMatters

Dr Michael Hill emphasised the importance of speed in thrombectomy. “We’re not tidy - sacrifice everything for speed. “If not under 60 minutes from door-to-puncture, you’re not going fast enough.” But even the fastest thrombectomy services in England take over 2 hours. #UKSF24

Professor Mead added, “Place of death should be discussed, even though, in the event of stroke, hospital is the most likely. Unless we ask, we can’t facilitate. Be open to questions from family: “How long will it take to die?” Discuss these issues with openness and kindness.

At #UKSF24 Professor Gillian Mead spoke about bespoke palliative care for stroke patients. “Early discussions about likely outcome could be more direct. “Important to be open to what families are saying. “Even as a senior clinician, I still find these conversations difficult.”
