@Dexerto YouTube does not have a 90-second non-skippable ad format. This isn’t something we are testing right now. We’re looking into this further.

Happy 56th Birthday to the innovative Q-Tip, aka “The Abstract” 🎉 Born Jonathan William Davis (later Kamaal Ibn John Fareed) on April 10, 1970, in Manhattan, NYC, Q-Tip is the visionary MC, producer, and creative force behind A Tribe Called Quest, one of hip-hop’s most influential groups. Known for his smooth delivery, intellectual lyricism, and jazz-infused beats, Q-Tip helped redefine rap in the 90s with a style that was both laid-back and deeply thought-provoking. As the group’s primary songwriter and producer, Q-Tip crafted landmark albums like The Low End Theory (1991) and Midnight Marauders (1993). Blending head-nodding rhythms with soul, jazz, and funk samples, he set a new standard for hip-hop production. Q-Tip’s approach was cultural, paying tribute to Black musical history while pushing the genre forward. Following A Tribe Called Quest, he launched a solo career, starting with the funkier Amplified (1999) featuring “Vivrant Thing.” Later albums like the Grammy-nominated The Renaissance (2008) showcased his depth. As a producer, he significantly shaped tracks for Nas (Illmatic), Mobb Deep, Busta Rhymes, and Kanye West, influencing generations of hip-hop. What's your favorite Q-Tip song or verse?

Without Q-Tip there is no Andre 3000, Pharrell, Mobb Deep, Dilla, Kanye, and so many more. They were all inspired or assisted by him in some form. Most of the ones still living will tell you that themselves. Q-Tip deserves all his flowers for his contributions to hip-hop.
