Great game at the Parc des Princes in Paris, and as we said on @talkSPORT the ref did very well. But no quoting of any law book, tweaked and twisted by VAR's inadequacies, will excuse the ludicrous decision to give that penalty to PSG. I wish this guy had used common sense.

Rule states that there has to be two players behind the goalkeeper for the player scoring to be onside. Ball out of play. Foul on Gabriel.

Newcastle since the takeover keep getting decisions 90% of the time. You can call it coincidence but something fishy. Last week Var gave them a penalty against Wolves that was never and ref got demoted. And today another shocking call in their favor. And it will happen again

VAR was MoM for Newcastle but we deserved to lose. Arsenal were dreadful. Only Rice, again, deserves any praise. So long as we have no proper striker, and Arteta persists in this ridiculous Havertz farce, we won’t win the League.

@deanmclernon @Rae_C @richardajkeys The rule in 2023 is if it is an accidental handball and his arm was in a natural position (as Joelinton’s was), it is NOT an offence, providing he doesn’t score. If Joelinton himself had scored, then yes, it would have been a handball. It’s a stupid rule, but it is the rule.

Arteta is spot on. Allowing that goal was embarrassing. Ok - ball might not have been out but it’s a clear push on Gabriel & Joelinton handles the ball before you can argue whether Gordon is offside. So 2 nailed on reasons to disallow it.

@LeonOpensStuff @DanielNUFC85 @richardajkeys It’s not handball because Gordon is behind the ball. It’s irrelevant how many players are between Gordon and the goal, and whether the ball went forward or backwards, because Gordon is quite clearly behind the ball.

@DanielNUFC85 @richardajkeys No idea why VAR don't just ask refs if they *want* to review goals like this, give them the option, with so many possibilities of a goal being disallowed the chance of it being legit is low so worth a second look

@edinglefield @EduardoHagn The rules have changed this season so that an accidental handball like that only gets “blown” if that player then scores. Similar incidents have happened all season, and all goals have stood. I agree it was possibly a foul though.

@kottongs @d_dot_k @EduardoHagn Gordon is behind the ball. That renders it completely irrelevant whether the ball goes forward or how many players are between him and the goal. It’s onside. People just don’t know the rules.

@piersmorgan 1) The ball stayed in play, as proven by @beINSPORTS 2) Gordon was behind Joelinton…how can he be offside? 3) The foul… yeah, possibly. Clear and obvious? I dunno… pretty subjective. Plenty of people think it was, plenty think it wasn’t.

So we all just watched the ball go out of play, then Gabriel get fouled, and then a clear offside. But VAR still gave Newcastle the goal. Just pathetic.
