Local garage owner showed me the prices for a wishbone for my car in his supplier's system: 230 What he doesn't say is that he gets a 50 - 80% discount on those prices because he orders a lot from them Online that exact same part costs 120 delivered. So he adds 110 to his margins while his rates look competitive Clever. But I'm not stupid. And I don't like playing games. I don't work with him anymore because of this Instead I work with another guy who doesn't inflate his margins. He just charges a fair rate for the work he does. He doesn't mind installing parts I supply either. Feels a lot more fair for both parties

@Motor1com @wooper2real As a professional mechanic when I see two and 300% markup (or more) on parts I immediately call said shop a fraud. I charge more per hour for labor than anybody else, but you don't pay me $300 for a $20 piece

@EricMTerrill1 I'm going to look at a 320.000 km Porsche Cayenne from 2010 tomorrow. I feel my CLS 500 is too reliable and I would like to throw money away at a far greater pace

@RKNL86 @Madz_Grant We have Alexas in my room and the kitchen. I mostly use them to "call" my kids and have them bring me snacks. The oldest one should be ok to start making coffee. Good idea.

I've noticed amongst friends who have little kids that they are basically forced into waking up when they do. When I was little I remember v clearly knowing that we shouldn't go and wake parents until at least 9am on a weekend, and generally entertaining ourselves in the morning

So a couple weeks ago a casting agency reached out to us wanting to cast a “credible, tight-knit band” for an ad, but didn’t tell us who the ad was for. Turned out they liked us … but then they revealed it was an ad for AT&T, which is one of ICE’s big contractors. So we said no.

Americans dropped nukes on Japan twice and now they‘re best friends. Americans defended Europeans for free the past 80 years and they are the most ungrateful pricks imaginable. There is a lesson to be learned there.

Oh yay they’re canceling me for thinking it is creepy to sexualize cherries, specifically in regard to virginity, then put them all over little girl’s clothes…. In a world of Epsteins and child trafficking. Sorry that my brain engages in pattern recognition I guess. 🤷‍♀️

Man, you're asinine. You're assuming all sorts of things that were not said and then demand op tell you which Elightenment Thinker™️ said the thing you just made up I could hit you over the head with a book about the Enlightenment and you'd demand to know which Elightenment thinker it was from

Hand washing as a religious practice was dismissed as a superstition during the enlightenment era until the discovery of bacteria. Doctors didn't realize they were killing people by spreading infections from patient to patient.

I used second hand beech floor boards as a sub floor for a project a few years ago for cost reduction Former contractor I know lectured me on how I'm crazy to do this because it's more work and you can throw some OSB under it for next to nothing Then I showed him the OSB prices and he nearly had a stroke

Would you look at that!! 🔥👇🏼 “Anybody’s in any kind of construction knows OSB used to be over f*cking $25 a sheet… And for the last year, it was over $17 a sheet. Walk in today, $9.71 a f*cking sheet. It dropped almost half price. Boys, this is coming from Canada… Trump is working out those tariff deals and our lumber is getting cheaper, boys. Prices are going down.”

@RealmanRobotics This is hilarious. The robotic arm is plucking cables from a block of foam and inserting them into a switch, which is incredibly easy to do, yet you pretend you've made a breakthrough technology Also, there is no real world use case for a robot that plugs ethernet cables. Clowns

One cable. One port. Zero room for error. This is the kind of task that looks simple — until a robot has to do it reliably in a tight space. In this demo, a RealMan robotic arm performs Ethernet cable insertion inside a server rack.

@GlitchValkyrie @fawnofstars @axiochrono @grok The advice is: Don't add specifics lest the autists will inevitably notice the inconsistencies in your story and ruin it for everyone. This advice of course doesn't apply if you are one of those autists who notices every inconsistency, like Asimov obviously was

My accountant has a storage for all client documentation. It is organised in a way only he knows. All digital documents he receives he prints and files in boxes. The digital copy is then deleted This ensures that if his firm is ever audited, they will have to go through a wall of boxes, one by one The only reason he does this is to create friction for auditors. I love this man
