GOOD NEWS! The City of Waltham recently implemented a new tool to our website called, ‘DocAccess’. Utilizing AI-powered OCR (Optical Character Recognition), it instantly converts all of our online PDFs into accessible, screen reader-friendly HTML transcripts. Not only does this provide additional ADA-aligned access for those with disabilities, but it also comes with a host of other benefits too - • Easily translates any PDF into over 150 languages • Creates “document outlines” for quick & easy navigation • Embeds metadata & tags throughout documents so you can search and easily find what you’re looking for based on keywords • Allows residents to better “interact” with our PDFs and ask questions to easily find answers that link directly to that section in the document • It can make complex, overwhelming documents much easier to digest and understand • Provides 24/7 disability assistance & support Want to see DocAccess in action? Check out our annual Trash & Recycling Brochure: bit.ly/recycling-tras… (*Note: Full set of features may be temporarily disabled while we're still undergoing the implementation process. Also stay tuned for our 2026 brochure coming soon!) Digital accessibility benefits everyone and we’re excited to see this update go live 🥳

Chief Mullin joined Fire Chiefs from across the country in Washington, DC for the 2026 Legislative Conference. We thank Congresswoman Clark for taking the time to discuss a number of bills effecting the fire service with the Metro Fire Chiefs.

FYI regarding Farwell Street Bridge - The Massachusetts Department of Trasnportation (MassDOT) has significantly lowered the load rating of Farwell Street Bridge. The new load ratings are now posted and they restrict most truck travel. There is a 5-ton limit for two and three axial vehicles and a 9-ton limit for 5 axial vehicles. Any operators who exceed posted limits can be fined and liable for damages. Questions can be directed to MassDOT or the Waltham Engineering office at 781-314-3800. See notice from City Engineer, Robert Winn: city.waltham.ma.us/sites/g/files/… See notice from MassDOT: city.waltham.ma.us/sites/g/files/…
