Alexi Lalas on a panel with players who were way better than him: I think it’s important we highlight the worse players.

Y'all aren't going to believe this, but my proprietary rankings happen to feature all the teams that play on my network.

Watching “bad” older movies really highlights how far the industry has fallen.

No surprises in the Tour de France today. Tadej is better than Jonas. Jonas is better than everyone else. Wish we had gotten more days of suspense, but honestly, this outcome was clear after stage 2. At least the battle for the podium should be interesting.

College football message boards have never been this offended.

I have a theory: American sports culture tends to be more earnest, motivational, and family-friendly. Chants lean positive or generic. “Let’s go [team]!”, “Defense!”, “I believe that we will win!” Honestly it's kind of cringe and lame, especially when you compare to the English football chants, which are the absolute pinnacle of excellence in the field. The Brits don't have this positivity culture. Theirs is infused with banter. In the USA, there's less cultural permission for sustained irony or savagery in mixed public crowds. Football in the UK was (and remains) a working-class / tribal passion for many clubs. These clubs have deep roots, representing regions that have gone to wars. Manchester United vs. Leeds always invokes the "Wars of the Roses," a 15th-century civil war between the House of Lancaster and the House of York. US soccer has long had more of a suburban, middle-class + family vibe in many places. And instead of standing terraces, American stadiums are mostly all-seated, highly commercial stadiums with constant PA interruptions, ads, timeouts, and have more of an “entertainment product” feel. Cheerleaders or marching bands and announcers often lead rather than the crowd inventing spontaneously. Just to show you how cheeky some of the banter is in English football (which wouldn't be tolerated in the US), there was a South Korean player who played for my team Manchester United. The chant for him goes: Park, Park, wherever you may be, You eat dogs in your own country. It could be worse, You could be a Scouse, Eating rats in your council house! (To the tune of a variant of "Lord of the Dance") And this is us the United fans showing love for Park because we bothered to craft a chant for him! This would simply never fly in the US
