These little guys got me out of bed after my father passed. I was a mess for three years. My husband brought home two abused baby rats. I nursed them back to health and had three wonderful years with them. They passed away a year ago and I miss them terribly every day. They gave me my life back.

During your darkest period, what was the best thing you ever did for your mental health?

Officially my favorite time of year when the snow is melting, the air and breeze are warm, you can see and smell the grass and dirt, and you can walk around in minimal layers. The heaviness of winter and darkness are slowly lifting and things seem possible again.

my therapist told me, "stop assuming people are mad at you. Stop attempting to read people's minds. stop trying to manage the thoughts and emotions of others. let people be in charge of themselves. if they have something to say to you they will and if they don't it is their responsibility not yours. overthinking kills happiness" and that hit me like a brick.
