As a Christian, I have been trying to understand what I see happening to my country over the last few years. With the return of Jerusalem to the Jews, we reach the end of what Jesus called, "The Time of the Gentiles". Luke 21, 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. At the end of such an era comes judgement. Everything is tested by fire and only what is true survives. What doesn't, never was. The English have a decent shout to be the oldest contiguous nation on the planet. Even the Anglo-Saxons made up only 25% of the new population. We are the same as we always were. From the book "The Seven Daughters of Eve" by Bryan Stokes, I came to the conclusion that the English were almost certainly the remains of that nation that Scripture calls "The Kittim", which makes a lot more sense of the later end-time prophecies! For anyone who wonders if Scripture supports this idea, I'd point them towards the prophecies against the nations made by Balaam, particularly towards Asher (the ruins of Asher are about six miles from the town of T'krit). From 300AD until very recently, the English as a whole were Christians. Christianity formed the entire foundation of their society. They instituted the Parliamentary Democracy, the independent judiciary, the apolitical Civil Service and the absolute freedom of speech and thought which ensure freedom for all. These ideas they spread though the whole world and wherever they have been adopted (or survived independence), those nations are the freest on the planet. For about 200 years, England (and later Britain) was the centre of the propagation of the Gospel throughout the world. Oh, and they ended slavery over a quarter of the globe. For those who believe the English are irredeemably racist, at the height of the Empire, a memo was circulated throughout the Colonial Service which stated: "In the Colonial Service the one unforgivable sin is a sense of racial superiority." Whereas Ex-pats may have been racist, the Colonial Service itself was the first institutionally anti-racist organisation in the world! So where are they now, the English (and British)? Under judgement. If that judgement continues, in less than 100 years, the English as a race will have been all but eradicated. Do they deserve that? Well, yes, everyone does! Will that happen? I was on the point of thinking so, until I found a Scripture. This may be the most important Scripture I have ever found and for the moment I cannot move past it. It is in the Book of the Prophet Micah, in the last chapter and it states: Micah 7, 1-9 "Oh woe is me, I am as when they have already gathered the summer fruits and all the grapes are harvested. There is nothing to eat, no first fruit that my soul craves. "The faithful have been swept from the land - not one upright person remains. Everyone lies in wait for one another, each hunts his fellow with a net. "They give both hands to do evil; to do it well. The prince demands his price, the judge has his agenda, the great and the good speak only the evil desire of their souls and so they twist the course of justice between them. "The best of them is like a briar, the most upright like a hedge of thorns. The day of which the watchmen warned is come; the day God settles accounts. Now is the time of confusion. "Do not trust your neighbour, have no confidence in a friend, even from the woman in your arms, guard your lips. "For the son dishonours his father, a daughter rises against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man's enemies are those of his own household. "But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD; I wait for my saviour. "Do not gloat over me my enemies, for though I have fallen, I shall rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light again. "I will bear the LORD's wrath and anger for I have indeed sinned against him. But when that is done he will turn again and plead my cause, and give me justice. He will bring me back to the light and I will see his vindication." You will not find these exact words in any single translation, since I compared 9 translations, one of them French, and went back to the Hebrew on almost every word. But this is the sense as best I can extract it. If any Ancient Hebrew experts ever see this, then they can correct any bit of it I have wrong. Around the turn of the millennium, I was invited to a conference of the prophetic wing of the Christian Church in Britain. Of the 40 or so people there, most were proposing that we "declare Ichabod". I got very angry and predicted Brexit. I was the only one to do so. I also predicted that we would come through judgement and survive. Since then I have had my doubts, but since the one came true, I must believe the other. This Scripture gives me the hope that I was right on both. THIS is where we are. BTW, I was never invited back!😆

Islam in the West is the ring of power in The Lord of the Rings. Everyone thinks they can handle it. They think they can use it, moderate it, integrate it, tame it, or negotiate with it. The Ring serves only one master, and it is not the one wearing it. As long as the West thinks it can use Islam, Islam ends up using the West. Just like the Ring amplifies the worst impulses of the one who carries it, Islam reshapes whatever institution allows it inside: Human-rights language becomes a shield for illiberal politics. Free-speech norms become a platform for anti-free-speech doctrines. Religious liberty becomes legal cover for parallel legal systems. Democracy becomes a staircase to end democracy. This is the rule of the Ring: Whoever tries to wield it eventually becomes its servant. Even the well-intentioned fall. Especially the well-intentioned. The West keeps trying different strategies: "Support moderates, integrate communities, counter the extremists, not the ideology, dialogue will soften them, maybe they don’t really mean what they say, economic uplift will change their worldview, second and third generations will modernize." Every one of these is the Council of Elrond arguing that maybe someone, somewhere, might use the Ring differently. But Tolkien’s world and Islam world share the same truth: You can't reform an object built for domination. You can't tame an ideology constructed for supremacy. The Ring can't be debated, reasoned with, or negotiated into moderation. It was forged for one purpose, and it retains that purpose regardless of who wears it. Islam is the same. The only way to destroy the Ring is to take it back to the place where it was forged, the fires of Mount Doom, and burn it in its original source. The same is true for Islam: You can't defeat it with counterterrorism alone. You can't defeat it with border policy alone. You can't defeat it with intelligence operations alone. You can't defeat it through elections, speeches, or interfaith dinners. You must go to its Mordor, its theology, its texts, its jurisprudence, its political creed, its doctrinal foundations, and you must burn it there. Confront the doctrine of jihad. Expose the political blueprint. Discredit the historical narrative. Challenge the legal theory that divides humanity. Break the ideological architecture. Expose it's master. Only then does the Ring lose its power. Everything else is delay. The danger is not in extremism. The danger is in believing you can harness extremism for your benefit. Like the Ring, Islam corrupts even those who oppose it. It drags the center toward its worldview. It forces institutions to accommodate its demands. It shapes the political discourse through intimidation, guilt, or demographic leverage. The Ring does not want to be hidden. It wants to be worn. Islam does not want to coexist. It wants to rule. There is no path to victory that avoids the mountain. There is no shortcut around theology. There is no peace purchased through appeasement. There is no safety in pretending the ideology is harmless. There is no future if you refuse to confront the source of the problem. The West keeps walking in circles around Mount Doom, hoping for an easier route. But there isn’t one. If you want to destroy the Ring, you must go to Mordor. If you want to combat Islam, you must confront its theology. That is the fire in which the ideology was forged. And that is the only fire in which it can be destroyed.

Fascinating, looking at the comments and it can be read both ways. But consider this: what other nation on Earth has been eradicated from its land and spread arounf rthe world and then come back to home? None. Is that an accident? Further consider this: we are well into End Times and into a time of unprecedented evil. Which nation around the world is getting attacked? Israel. If Israel were not Israel, but some godless copy, they would be universally celebrated by The World. Is that what's happening? No, quite the reverse - the Spirit of the World is universally against them. Thirdly: love the Lord your God and love your neighbour as yourself is all the Law and the Prophets - most Jews understand that and try to do it, by faith. The destruction of the Temple pushed Jews away from Pharaseeism and towards faith. The Gentiles have been grafted in, but Israel is still Israel.

Do it! Modern gloves for kids would be lovely and puffy - we had gloves which were probably war vintage, bought as a job lot from the Services (military). But if you've boxed, you stop being frightened of everyone. You learn how to see a punch coming and how to block, avoid or duck. It makes a difference. It might even stop them being stabbed one day (the principles are the same).

Fatty Wilson was the one who gave me hell for two years. Richard Greenstead was a friend and member of my gang which was called The Tiddlers.😆 We played Hunters, which was three-dimensional tag played in trees. I have no idea how no one died, but we played it almost every day! But in the ring Richard did not mess about. On the other hand I learned from that bout something I could not have learned any other way: you need more than one tactic!😄

Well, we were eleven or twelve. I might have seen a nosebleed, but not a bad one. Greenstead hit me very hard several times and I just couldn't stop him! I was a dancer in the ring, dodge and reposte, but he just kept coming forward, closed me down and wop, wop, wop! But I don't think I even showed a bruise. I might have had a black eye the following day, but we had those all the time! On half-days in the park, we made spears out of branches with the sheath knives we all carried and threw them at one another. To stop being a NEW BUG you had to jump out of The Lion's Mouth, which was a good eight feet off the ground - aged eight! It was a different world.

Hello. It's Day 1485 and efforts to stop Russia's war of choice seem to have ground to a halt, with Ukraine’s president telling his team to prepare for another year of war. Welcome to the daily thread for Thursday 19 March 2026.

I have believed for some time that Zelenskyy's apparent willingness to negotiate was a deliberate tactic to unequivocally demonstrate that Russia was not serious about peace. A calculated risk, but one which allows him now to freely seek support in the ongoing war. Details here:

There are three Hebrew words for "killing". The first means simply to "make dead" i.e. to kill. This is the word you think is in the commandment and it just isn't. The second word means "to slay" (as in battle) or "to slaughter" as in animals. This isn't the word either. The third word is the one used in the commandment and it means "to dash into pieces" or "to murder" So now you know more than you did before...😊

@HoodedClaw1974 I don't know Peter. As far as I recall the Bible says "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13). This leaves us with a slight dilemma does it not? Does God distinguish murder by the state from murder by a regular citizen? I'm not sure that he does, does he?

It's on the album "Keynsham", which people miss because the album had a different name in America... But that line (which is thoughtfully spoken) is the only time on the album that Keysham is even mentioned, let alone a song about it. So every time I see the word Keynsham, I post that question! It's the first time two people have guessed. If you look at the other correct reply, he simply quoted another line from the same song, which was based! So good guess...🎖️
