We sat down with @robinsonburkey (CCO @WormholeFdn) at Breakpoint to talk about the thing nobody wants to deal with: stablecoin fragmentation. USDT on Solana, USDT on Ethereum, USDT on Tron. Same dollar, different chains, completely separate balances. "If you opened your mobile banking app, it'd be like having 34 accounts for USD. It'd be wild." That's the problem @wormhole was built to solve. And two years in, the numbers back it up: Wormhole now facilitates 30-40% of all USDC transfers through Circle's CCTP, with stablecoins making up roughly half of all volume moving through the protocol. Robinson breaks down how Wormhole went from 15-minute cross-chain transfers to 12 seconds today — with a target of 1-second settlement for tap-to-pay. He also gets into why chains like Hyperliquid are issuing their own stablecoins, what that means for USDC and USDT dominance, and how products like stablecoin cards could use Wormhole to route deposits across chains in the background.
