One key concern is that the ban could disproportionately hurt marginalized people who are still navigating the application process. San Francisco has been investing in a cannabis equity program to help those harmed by the war on drugs succeed in the new legal industry.

Critics of the ban, however, argue that it amounts to "old-school protectionism" that may keep retailers profitable but at the cost of higher prices for consumers. They warn that consumers might end up paying the price for this restriction.

One argument in favor of the ban is that San Francisco already has a high number of pot shops per capita compared to other #California cities, and there is a concern about oversaturation and competition within the legal cannabis market.
