@RTC_Swe

Governments must take urgent action to repatriate their citizens in Northeast Syria. Children can never be held responsible for their parents actions.

Eva Dumani, now 21 years old, was repatriated to #Albania today after nearly 12 years in #Syria, mostly spent in #AlHol camp. - Abducted by her jihadist father at age 8 in 2014, she was taken there along with her then-6-year-old brother (pictured).

Getting varied reactions to Eva Dumani's repatriation from #alHol to #Albania yesterday. Important not to lose sight of a few hard facts when passing judgement: - Eva and her brother were abducted by their own #ISIS jihadist father, tricked into a "vacation," then dragged to #Syria at ages 8 and 6 - Forcibly thrust into a terrorist zone, they endured extreme violence and trauma—with zero choice - Trapped in the hellhole of al-Hol for years afterward - Could prolonged exposure to ISIS ideology, trauma, and deprivation lead to indoctrination or radicalization? I've researched this subject for a long time and the answer is yes—real risk. That's exactly why risk and needs assessments for returnees are standard procedure across Europe upon arrival - But these abducted kids are victims first and foremost. Treat them as such unless clear evidence says otherwise - So, what should be the priority here? - Evidence-based psychosocial programs, family reunification, and real support for these deeply traumatized youth to reintegrate. Fear-driven generalizations and lazy "dangerous" labels don't help. Quite the opposite.

@Shtuni These children are dangerous — and so are their families. They should be placed in a rehabilitation program and kept under observation.
