With some of the candidates so close, there had been talk that a full recount - but that prospect seems to have faded away. It means the next count should be the end of proceedings in Fingal West

Labour’s Rob O’Donoghue has arrived too - he’s just 668 votes shy of the quota so is in pole position to take a seat

Count 5 saw Tony Murphy move above Lorraine Clifford-Lee, but with just 38 votes between them, a recheck has been called. At the moment it’s just for the 731 vote surplus from Louise O’Reilly, so it’s not expected to take too long to conclude.

With the count suspended, that’s all from here for this evening. It’s set to resume (hopefully) broth land (somewhat) early at 10am tomorrow morning.

The lay of the land after the 5th count: O'Donoghue (Lab) - 6,862 Boland (FG) - 5,218 Murphy (Ind) - 4,923 Clifford-Lee (FF) - 4,885 *excluded* However it will be tomorrow morning before we know what will happen in terms of a recount - and what impact that could have on votes.

Lab's Rob O'Donoghue continued to do well on transfers in the 5th count, gaining 397 to bring his total to 6,862. Ind Tony Murphy gained 155 votes to move his total to 4,923. That allowed him to leapfrog FF's Lorraine Clifford-Lee - who became the lowest ranked candidate.

FF’s Lorraine Clifford-Lee has been excluded after the 5th count. However the returning officer says he has an indication that he will be asked for a recount - he has suspended the count until tomorrow morning & will discuss wi the parties how a recount might proceed

O'Donoghue now has 6,465 votes. FG's Boland has 5,183 FF's Clifford-Lee has 4,835 Ind Tony Murphy has 4,768. No-one can be elected from O'Reilly's 731 vote surplus, so whoever has the lowest vote after that's redistributed will be eliminated.
