The catalyst for the riots was this:
76 year old Walter Chamberlain, a World War II veteran, was attacked and mugged by a group of Pakistanis.
Walter was walking home after watching a local amateur rugby league match. He was mugged and badly beaten, receiving fractured bones in the face amongst other injuries.
