I am saddened to report that I recently learned of the death of Paul Daynes.

National Police Week is an opportunity to recognize and thank police officers across British Columbia and Canada for their service, sacrifice and commitment to public safety. Every day, officers respond to challenging and often dangerous situations — putting themselves in harm’s way to protect others and keep our communities safe. Our government will continue supporting police with the tools, training and resources they need to respond to today’s public safety challenges and strengthen trust with the communities they serve. To every officer working to keep people safe across B.C. and Canada: thank you for your service, your commitment and your sacrifice.

So let me get this straight. Former mayors are calling for exclusive police helicopter use. I’ve been calling for a secure BC ID system to better track who is here and who shouldn’t be. Now a sitting municipal mayor is calling a STATE OF EMERGENCY. And what does Niki Sharma do? A podcast appearance on This Is VanColour with Mo Amir. No press conference, no clear policy direction and no plan to restore confidence in the justice system she oversees. She’s doing media hits while our province suffers. And all the Liberals have done is throw money at this, but money alone won’t fix it. We need stronger laws, real bail and sentencing consequences, police empowered to do their jobs, and foreign gang members DEPORTED when caught. Leadership means standing at a podium, answering hard questions, and taking ownership of a public safety crisis. Not talking around it while communities are under fire!
