@CathyMo41926708 @ThePosieParker one small point. it is in Mid Suffolk District not Babergh
English

No public information confirms that any specific UK authority (such as Babergh District Council, Suffolk County Council, or national government bodies) has formally permitted or approved the UK Ijtima 2026 event at Shrubland Palace in Barham, Suffolk.
The event announcement—posted on Facebook pages like “London to Nizamuddin” and shared in local groups—simply states that Shrubland Palace (IP6 0PW) will host the gathering on 10–12 July 2026 under the guidelines of the World Markaz Nizamuddin (the global headquarters of Tablighi Jamaat in India). It describes the venue as 300 acres of private land with ample parking, suitable for 100,000+ attendees, but makes no mention of planning permission, temporary event licences, safety approvals, or consultations with local councils/police.
Why permission matters here
• Large events in the UK (especially those expecting tens of thousands) typically require:
• Planning permission or a temporary use approval from the local district council (here, likely Babergh District Council, which covers Barham near Ipswich).
• A premises licence or temporary event notice (TEN) under licensing laws.
• Risk assessments, traffic management plans, and input from Suffolk Police and highways authorities due to the rural location (a small village of ~1,500 people) and expected strain on roads, emergency services, and infrastructure.
• No news reports, council statements, or official documents (as of April 2026) publicly detail any such approvals for this specific event. Searches for council decisions, planning applications, or licences turn up nothing concrete.
Current status
• The event appears to be in the early promotional/preparation stage. Organizers (linked to Tablighi Jamaat networks) are actively advertising it and encouraging attendance from across the UK and abroad.
• Local residents and online discussions (including the X post you linked) are raising concerns about scale, impact on the area, and whether proper permissions will be granted—or have already been quietly given.
• Similar large Tablighi gatherings elsewhere have sometimes faced last-minute cancellations or conditions over crowd management and policing (though those examples are from other countries).
In short: The venue owners (Shrubland Palace) have evidently agreed to host it, and the event is being organized under Tablighi Jamaat guidance from Nizamuddin Markaz, but there is no verified public record of local council or police permission yet. If the event proceeds at this scale, formal approvals would normally be required closer to the date. Local authorities in Suffolk would be the ones ultimately responsible for granting (or denying) the necessary permissions.
If more details emerge (e.g., a planning application reference), they would likely appear on Babergh District Council’s website or in local news.

@BasilTheGreat Its in Barham, Suffolk, a village of approximately 1600 people. The local, district and county councils and police knew nothing about it till a few days ago. The roads in the area are not suitable for this kind of traffic. (Local Resident)
English

@BasilTheGreat the question nobody seems to be asking is "who else was given clearance despite failing vetting"?

@wideawake_media The part Piers never understands, Britain low low gun violence when Britains gun laws made texas look sensible, it had low gun violence when we had moderate gun laws in place and we now have low gun violence with tight gun laws in place . The laws did nothing, its about culture!
English

Piers Morgan: "In my country... very few people have guns... and the consequence of that is we have almost zero gun crime."
Tucker Carlson: "Oh, is your country, is London safe now?"
Piers Morgan: "We have a knife crime problem in our country."
Tucker Carlson: "No, you have a people problem. You have the kind of people who stab each other, and you didn't used to have that."
"It's a massive increase because the attitudes of the people, the actions of the people are totally different. You've got different people and different behaviours."
"And you can't admit that because... I'm not sure why."

@TBrit90 Have they slapped the Dragonfire test unit on it? Perfect chance to test it against real drones
English

@CarbonCriminal can only engage 48 of them before it runs out of missiles and has to reload or rely on guns
English

One Type 45 destroyer could defend Cyprus with ease. Each one is capable of tracking up to 1,000 targets from 400Km simultaneously and engaging up to 300 targets in layers from 120 km to 30 km (provided the targets are larger than a tennis ball) simultaneously.
Only one of six Daring Class is operational and it’s docked in Portsmouth. Shameful.

English

@BearJFK could they not mount the trial Dragonfire unit on one earlier than planned. Would help against drones and such.
English

Numerous commentators calling for T45s to be parked off Cyprus. Over the years, T45s have been counted as part of the force that could defend the British homeland in the same way.
The reality is this is pure cope. T45s exist to defend the fleet at sea. Land bases should have their own (unsinkable) and more numerous assets.
The double hatting or capabilities like our warships just shows how run down national defence is. Literally decades of capability cuts.
If you wanted to reverse the situation fast, you’d need to spend on the order of that spent on covid, around £400-500 billion.
Henry Bolton OBE 🇬🇧@_HenryBolton
Had our government had its wits about it, we'd have parked two Type 45 destroyers off Cyprus as goalkeepers. HMS Duncan should have already sailed. HMS Dauntless must be made ready to sail and leave in 72 hours. Why has this not happened? Once again, weak and indecisive leadership. That's why.
