No one is saying you can't criticize me - you're welcome to do so. I said to not disparage or slander or misgender staff or activists. Discussing and debating policy is fine. Disparaging an individual is not. If you can't respect that basic form of human decency, while posting from an anonymous account, that's disappointing.

Garry Tan and @bilalmahmood trying to make their bill look like less of an SF takeover by technocrats. I guess Bilal can still exploit the loophole since he can just change his identity every two terms.
SF Democratic Party@SFDemocrats

Did you know that term limits for Mayor and Supervisors reset? Ren from Yes on Prop B is here to explain how we got here, what Prop B will change, and why that’s important. Yes on Prop B is endorsed by the SF Democratic Party. Want more info? termlimitreformsf.com

@micsolana @zachweinberg Trump's corruption has created a lot of anger. "Let's go back to the status quo" has started to feel like being suckers to democrats. I don't have a great solution for this

all of their ideas now are like “should we dissolve the government, imprison our opponents, and seize every lever of power in the country? we’re the good guys remember, if we don’t do this the bad guys will win (an election)” like they don’t even talk about healthcare anymore lol
Pat Adams@PatAdams96

Kamala Harris is now calling for Democrats to hold a “No Bad Idea Brainstorm” where they discuss: - Abolishing the Electoral College - Packing the Supreme Court - Making Puerto Rico and D.C. states “We’ve got to neutralize these red states from cheating!”

Did you know in San Francisco, you can block housing from being built because it… causes a shadow? Over the last 10 years, over 2000 units of housing have been delayed or stalled because of this. That's why I’m announcing the SHADE Act - or Slashing Housing Appeals And Delays Everywhere. You see today, our city treats “shadows” the same as toxic waste in our environmental review process. It allows anyone to appeal a project and stop it from being built on the grounds of some shade caused by a new building. The SHADE Act will in turn: 1) eliminate local allowances for shadow as a reason for an environmental appeal, 2) streamline our environmental review processes from 30 days to 15 days, and 3) simplify and modernize our public notification processes. Because let’s face it, San Francisco is paying too high a price for being afraid of its own shadow. It’s time to fix that.

Sent another 64 ETH to the Animal Welfare Fund. I encourage others to think and act more in support of our non-human cousins too! The extreme suffering we're imposing on them in the billions is not something we talk about often, but it continues to be one of the larger blights on humanity. And I'm getting optimistic that this century we can finally end it. Farming practices are improving, synthetic alternatives are improving. Also, in my recent experience, good old low-tech vegetarian and vegan food has improved massively worldwide over the last ten years; I encourage anyone who has tried it long before and given up to take second look; there are far more healthier and tastier options today than the "pasta and salad" you would often get ten years ago.

@DadMurdos @Oakmanbearcow @politicalmath I think those are good & reasonable reforms. It's gonna be a while, gestation crates are still legal in over 40 states. I'd encourage you to vote with your feet in the meantime by buying fish or non-ff meat. You don't have to go full vegan.

@RabbitsByNight @Oakmanbearcow @politicalmath Industrial reform is a thing. No, I do not have a specific list of perfect changes, but the bullet points of expanding animal pens, limiting antibiotics, and pushing for larger feed areas are perfectly reasonable. Always an option other than hard bans. All I have to say.

@DadMurdos @Oakmanbearcow @politicalmath I'm confused. We agree killing to eat is part of nature and morally ok (I'm with you here). We agree factory farming is bad. 99% of meat is in fact factory farmed. What would you have us do about it? Should we take any action at all?

@RabbitsByNight @Oakmanbearcow @politicalmath Also, I don't believe killing animals is immoral. I think doing it in ways that require long-term suffering is. Temple Grandin already has proved we can improve the methods of slaughter available to us once. That's basically my hard line. Killing to eat is part of nature.

@micsolana @Aella_Girl Even if meat is far less cruel (it is), the analogy works. 9 billion animals factory farmed per year in the US. We don't need to guilt meat eaters, but I do respect those who abstain on principle.

@DadMurdos @Oakmanbearcow @politicalmath FWIW I don't judge you for this. It's really hard to talk about moral beliefs without appearing judgy, but I think we have to do it anyway if any progress is to be made

@DadMurdos @Oakmanbearcow @politicalmath Even if it was a matter of need (debatable- beans and rice are cheaper), you still have to acknowledge it's a moral issue. In the same way as stealing to survive is a moral issue Activists do focus on factory farming; this attempt in Solano county lost. People just don't care.

@maxdubler No I understand that. What I'm saying is we can have both good aesthetics and lots of development; in fact YIMBY policies (like less discretionary review) will likely help But many believe it's one or the other, and seeing "defense" of this flip will confirm their fears

@RabbitsByNight That tradeoff is real. We cannot have strict regulation of building aesthetics and lots of development because NIMBYs who oppose new housing will weaponize design review to demand smaller and more expensive buildings.
