We hope many of you were lucky enough to witness those beautifully rare night skies over the weekend ✨ In celebration we’re sharing these images from ‘Aurorae: their characteristics and spectra’ by J.Rand Capron, from the RCScI collection #AuroraBorealis #UCD #rarebooks

Something sharp made its way cleanly through the binding & about 300 pages of this 17th century volume of tracts. We're thinking small sharp blade or maybe baby basilisk tooth.

Sometimes the most simple bindings are the most pleasing. Poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins was published posthumously in 1918. View our copy, once owned by John Sweeney, @MoLI_Museum Ink & Imagination exhibition.

More folktales for today's #UCDAdvent! This snowy scene is one of the beautifully illustrated pages in a bind up of two folktales by Pushkin - 'The Tale of The Golden Cockerel' and 'Fairytale of the Tsar Saltan'. It was published in 1904 with illustrations by Ivan Bilibin.

Tove Jansson (1957) from Moominland Midwinter. Moomintroll, unlike his family who hibernate, decides to stay up through the harsh winter. It is a tale of endurance, acceptance and learning to live with the discomfort of uncertainty #WomensArt

Hark, #UCDAdvent is here! Our first post is this delightful herald, found in 'A Book of Pictured Carols', designed by students at the Birmingham Art School and printed by the Chiswick Press in 1893. In 1956, Colm Ó Lochlainn gave this as a gift to his daughter Afric 🎄🎁 (5.E.27)

Published in 1900, 'Roman architecture, sculpture and ornament: selected examples from Piranesi's monumental work, first published in Rome, 1756' is one of the largest books in our holdings, measuring in at 58 x 80 cms! (UCD SC W1.J.3) #EYABig #EYAMór #ExploreYourArchives
