Researchers at @UWindsor incl our member @DrKSouc found that Canadian women with #pcos experience lengthy diagnosis timelines, recount reoccurring dismissive encounters with medical providers, and are concerned about the impact of PCOS on their future. ow.ly/tpo250Ej5cf

@amanat_l This is a very interesting topic! If you wanted to continue this work for an MA thesis how would you expand the study? Are there any additional aspects you would like to examine?

@meghankmcinnis Exactly. The two main themes that emerged for why participants found the online sources to be most helpful included the source(s) providing social support and methods of coping, help, and or advice. These results could be useful in designing online resources for this demographic.

@EmmaSJGreen I agree! I plan to continue to research this topic and believe it is important to examine those currently receiving mental health care in addition to those seeking support informally.

@RachelKatzman I think the idea of familiarity with mental health care and treatment might give some interesting results in help-seeking behaviours (whether that experience was beneficial or not, as well!).

@EmmaSJGreen The sample for this study was University of Windsor students in emerging adulthood (18-29). Although there were several demographic questions, this question was not asked of participants. This would be a great direction for future research. Thank you for your question!

@RachelKatzman Who was your sample for this study? Do you know if there were differences between participants with a diagnosed condition or undiagnosed conditions?

@meghankmcinnis The items regarding intentions assessed how likely participants were to seek help within this period from "Never" to "Very Likely". The questions regarding behaviours first asked whether participants engaged in specific behaviours (yes/no) then assessed the frequency if relevant.

@RachelKatzman Also, I think it interesting you pointed out emerging adults go to places like reddit for resources, as now this information could be used to place well researched resources in the exact place these young adults are already looking. Super cool research!

@amanat_l Help-seeking behaviour is seeking assistance from formal or informal sources of support with the intent to resolve issues (Rickwood & Thomas, 2012). Intentions are an individual's intent to seek assistance from either informal or formal sources of support (McDermott et al., 2017)

@RachelKatzman Hey Rachel! Would you mind explaining the difference between online help-seeking intentions and behaviours?
