I’m often asked ‘ I have had a cousin DNA match, how are we related’ ? This diagram is a good example however it can become more complex than this the further you go back. #genealogy

Today on 1st April, 60 years ago marked the end to the Borough of Finsbury who amalgamated with Islington. My great Uncle George Ives was a Labour Councillor for Finsbury and was a part of a campaign to keep Finsbury independent. He is featured in this photo to the far right. The UDI group lobbied vigorously during 1964.

Happy to say the book I contributed to Women from Hackney’s History Volume II features women whose stories illuminate the history of today’s Borough. Some of the 115 women featured include Suffragettes, a magician, entrepreneurs, entertainers, politicians, and a boxing chimney sweep. Available for pre-order NOW for collection or delivery in March hackneysociety.org/publications/w…

My 4 x great grandad was Alfred Ambrose Lindsay Inspector of the Edgware Police Force. He resided with his family on Whitchurch lane in Edgware. He died in 1865 at the age of 40 suffering from a prolonged illness. The current building dates from 1932 replacing the previous police station. See attached one of the many trials he was involved with at The Old Bailey: oldbaileyonline.org/record/t186207…

The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries is the oldest extant livery company hall in the City of London. My 7x great grandfather Dr John Pearce was Master here in 1772 and resided in Church Street Stoke Newington from 1779-1783. He died in 1784 and is buried in Bunhill Fields burial ground.
