Brutal reminder that life can change in a moment. We learned on Friday that my wife has colon cancer. The words don't seem real as I write them. She's a picture of perfect health. 41 years old, super fit, eats really well, great labs, no symptoms. Her dad died early from colon cancer, so she chose early screening. Never considered that they could find something. Our kids know they don't have grandfathers because cancer took them both. Explaining to them that their mom has to do what they didn't, and beat the disease, is not easy. They don't understand. I'm going offline for a bit, but have a few asks: 1) Don't wait to get a colonoscopy, especially if you have family history of CC. 2) If you have any resources or doctors to recommend, please send me a DM or email at brkleinsmith (at) gmail (dot) com. We live in Durango, CO but will travel if needed (DEN, DFW, PHX are easy flights, ABQ is an easy drive). 3) If you pray, pray for her. 4) Live it up right now. The future is uncertain. @CanfieldSofia Yes, many GCs specialize in connective tissue disorders! Are you in Canada or the US? If so, you can check out findageneticcounselor.com. Under specialty, select “adult”. An expert in this condition is Dr. Stephen Robertson at the University of Otago in New Zealand.

@RachelssGC Are some GCs specialized in non cancer conditions? I was diagnosed with Larsen Syndrome based on a mutation I have on FLNB a couple years ago and because it's rare (1/100,000) and my phenotype is atypical I've had trouble figuring out what to expect.

@ehgsmith Just really wanted a career identity. So my obit could say 'she was a great nurse/teacher/engineer' instead of 'she tried really hard but never made it and then she got cancer'
