In many ways Radical Reference got its start at the @Allied_Media Conference organized by @JenAngel and her then-partner Jason Kucsma. We wouldn’t have had independent journalism on our radar if not for the folks at the AMC in 2004.

HALF of the BaltCo Public Library's 500+ employees are PART-TIME. The most paid leave they get is from the STATE (sick & safe leave). Without it, 250+ employees would have only 4-8 hours of paid leave a YEAR. Started your job between Jan-June? 4 hrs. B/w July & Dec? 8 hrs.

Remembering the time I went to a "labor happy hour" in my neighb and everyone was in labor studies, and I introduced myself as a public librarian and one academic said, "And what's your connection to the labor movement?" and I said, "I'm a worker" and we shared an awkward moment.

Libraries have been in these positions for a long time. This isn’t a one-off. Whenever city/state governments can’t or won’t take care of the stuff they’re supposed to, libraries get called on to fill in the gaps (sometimes without even being informed before the general public).
