Well, I seriously underestimated how much food to take on this last backpacking trip, so I can now report that the following fruit do not make me shit my pants when eaten in significant quantities:

@DaveWildish (number of spores collected) x (likelihood of a spore to grow into mycelium that yields more caps) / (number of spores released by an average cap over its lifetime) There would be A LOT of zeros on the right side of that decimal point.

@DaveWildish I also hear that mushrooms tend to release the most spores in the first twenty-four hours of opening, but I cannot confirm this either. That sounds like an overgeneralization, at the very least.

Just casually sending my honeybee-interested neighbor some photos of amazing native bees in my yard this morning. Blowing her mind. Now she wants to give them some habitat in her yard too. 💕 Maybe honeybees are a gateway bee. #savethebees #nativeplants

Anyone have any crazy plant facts I can include in a trivia night? The weirder the better!

Dear students on #climatestrike: Thank you for what you are doing. It may feel like it is not making a difference but it is. My 8th-grade son Zane is out there drop-off striking but hasn't chosen to go on social media. Solidarity. #fridaysforfuture #schoolstrike4climate

Stinkhorn fungus: both a mature and an emerging "witch's egg" which is edible, usually eaten raw. #fungi #foraging

Uncut grass is so crucial in so many ways! It's a safe place for snakes, ground-nesting birds, and everybody else who likes to hang out in there. Also good for carbon storage in the soil.

And of course I thought it was a good idea to add at least twenty pounds (10kg) of Laetiporus sulphureus (sulphur shelf) on top of my pack for the last five miles.

I figured that for the space of three meals 5000 calories would be good, considering that I would be eating immediately before and after. But then in two days I ended up doing something like 24 miles (37km) and rising 4600 feet (1400m), the most rugged terrain entirely off trail.
