Tuesday's severe weather threat is unusually significant for northern New England. This is the first time parts of northern & eastern Maine have been placed in an SPC Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) on either the Day 1 or 2 outlooks since the category was introduced in 2014.

Expansive heat alerts stretch from the Great Basin into the northern Plains into parts of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. Triple-digit temperatures are expected in many locations through the next couple of days.
