@Empty_America This isn't manual labor. Manual labor is wheeling bricks around a construction site. This is, generously, 'garbage arbitrage'.

@algekalipso > In an ideal world the scientist should find a method to prevent the most severe forms of autism but allow the milder forms to survive I mean that is kind of the case. If it is too severe you will probably not procreate, but you can probably manage to procreate with mild autism

> In an ideal world the scientist should find a method to prevent the most severe forms of autism but allow the milder forms to survive. After all, the really social people did not invent the first stone spear. It was probably invented by an Aspie who chipped away at rocks while the other people socialized around the campfire. Without autism traits we might still be living in caves. - Temple Grandin, Thinking in Pictures, Expanded Edition: My Life with Autism

@gooficat @Daedalus2199 @Fintech03 I thought the implication was that it was unwise of him to avoid exams and bureaucrats, and if he was wiser he would have been eager to get a PhD If you were just saying he was dumb for getting tricked sure fine

There is a funny story about how Banach ended up getting his PhD. He was famously allergic to bureaucracy & exams. He did not care about his doctorate. To get him his PhD, his colleagues tricked him. They told him some gentlemen from Warsaw had arrived & had some interesting mathematical questions they could not solve. Banach spent hrs in a room answering their questions with brilliance. He did not realize until it was over that he had just completed his viva voce (oral defense). The gentlemen were the examining committee. He was awarded his doctorate for a conversation he thought was just a casual chat.

Stefan Banach was born exactly 134 years ago today 🎉 A self-taught prodigy, he was "discovered" by a professor who overheard him discussing Lebesgue integrals in a Kraków park. Here’s a cool instance of the Banach fixed-point theorem.

The Ancient Greeks literally had a mathematical formula for the perfect male physique, the Golden Ratio (1:1.618). Your shoulders should be exactly 1.618 times the size of your waist, with visible separation & athletic enough to actually move. Half the stuff on stage now is just inhuman, freaky physiques that nobody wants to look like and nobody wants to look at.

Modern body building is a joke. Offensively large physiques are disgusting. Aesthetics and proportions always have been and always will be the goal.

@ohabryka @nicomonlam @benlandautaylor Life is prison / death penalty aren't unreasonable either for killing someone completely unprovoked If you shoot someone in the leg and they die you can't really say well I just meant to wound them, you know

@ohabryka @nicomonlam @benlandautaylor Yeah my feeling is that 10 to 15 years is roughly a reasonable minimum in prison or in a mental institution if he's actually psychotic (which i dont think applies in this case)

@ohabryka @nicomonlam @benlandautaylor Don't you think attacking women/children/ the elderly should be an aggravating factor for exactly that reason Also, this is not comparable to two guys get in a scuffle and one of them dies (which is i think how youre treating it) This is an unprovoked attack

@RadioSqrl @nicomonlam @benlandautaylor Yeah, I watched the video. I totally agree that the assault was with enough violent intent that someone dying or getting seriously injured was not out of the question, but I do think in like 98% of cases an assault like this would not result in death.

The judge issued an 8-year sentence but stayed it, placing him on probation instead. He will only serve prison time if he violates probation. In the #GrandpaVicha case, the defendant will serve no prison time at this moment. Judge Colfax ruled that public safety and rehabilitation are better served through probation. This reflects a pattern of prior leniency, including earlier juvenile proceedings where probation was also given. Only if probation fails could he serve the full 8 years. Our family and community are devastated. #JusticeForVicha #RememberVicha #ProtectOurSeniors #SanFrancisco #StandForAsian

@ohabryka @nicomonlam @benlandautaylor Watch the video then, if I lost my mind and shoved an old man like that i wouldn't be that surprised if he was seriously injured / died And if I went to jail for five years and got let out on probation I would def feel like I got off easy

@ohabryka @nicomonlam @benlandautaylor Fair enough. It's pretty clear in my opinion that we already do make distinctions with respect to things like intent and aggravating factors And randomly killing a guy for no reason makes it pretty high up in terms of what the punishment should be.
