@allisonperryart @meganimation The term "indie" is also becoming too broad. A big channel like Glitch is indie but they are in a position to spend millions of dollars and recoup it. Spindlehorse has a big arrangement with Amazon and Bento. Likewise a channel that has literally 0$ to spend is also "indie."

@allisonperryart @meganimation Correct. And most of us who do these are already $10k+ in the hole before even launching. It's a luxury to "go indie" and not the responsible thing to do in most cases.

nonfamous artists who built careers in corpo animation rely on that income to provide for their partners and children, and telling us to "go indie" is essentially saying "get evicted and starve" and it's really hard not to mcfuckingloseit when you read comments like that

@Radrappy @NateDHernandez yes because that's capitalist owning class knowledge that little worker-consumers don't need to worry about - just keep producing shareholder value by working and consuming and don't think about the value of your labour or the commodities it produces

capitalist commodification is why most people don't know the answer to this question - not just in relation to animation, but any product/service
