@LaFlareiscrazy Our Osún is literally different from yoruba Oshun. In mode of worship In words for it Their nature The food they eat Their reverence Historians from the 80s and 90s examined both and draw a parallel our Osún is the opposite of yoruba oshun.

An Òbó Osún specialist at a palace ritual, as osun priests, is crucial to the success of these rituals. Ohén Osagiede shrine to Osun, the god of herb, medicine and magic, a typical osun shrine in Benin Kingdom, is devoid of art representation of osun divinity. In Benin worship, Osun takes the form of a large tree deep in the forest, surrounded by large mud pot filled with rainwater and leaves, the stuff of medicine. As the patron god of doctors, osun is considered a peaceful and calm god, but "when a fire starts from Osun shrine, there's no remedies to put it off." As Osun is also seen as a crucial divinity of war, represented in edo worship with color red, the last mistake an individual would make is to anger the god of medicine, charm and magic that when he's angry all other gods dare not intervene. Osun also protects against enemies at war. The osun staff, "long staff topped with imagery of vultures and chameleon," are a reminder that worshipers of Osun defys death. The praise name of this staff is Òsùn ní gió gió (boiling hot herbal medicine). It's believed that the staff itself is poisonous to touch. The last time such Òsún n'gió gió staff was used in public in Benin Kingdom was in 1947 by the Otu-Edo solidarity group against the Ogboni confraternity that threatened the Oba's authority.

Culture vulture everywhere, taking edo women photos of Okuku and tagging them Ngala and start showing artwork thar looks nothing like our edo women, is the height of theft. Okuku is not Ngala Okuku is not Igbo Okuku is Okuku, and it belongs to edo women.

See Wetin this one post as an early user of Okuku in Owo Where as na beaded crown nor be Okuku be that All because they want to build a united Yoruba Nation, on lies?
bamidele omoluabi@omoeko1800

@Edocentric_ Owó has its own distinct Okuku, and it’s well known that Bini and Owó influence each other. You can’t say they’re stealing it or that Yoruba are trying to steal it. Here is a photo of the Olowo of Owó’s queen in the 1950s wearing Okuku.

On a normal, I would respond to you, but you posted a screenshot of "okuku," which translates to a woof >photo, indicates what a woof is in Weaving. . . . But you went on to start discussing about olókun, there are series of olókun work on my page even one above the one you quoted, your write up and screenshot would have been needed there, for proper debunking. . . . Now the issues' the photo you presented as your evidence for Okun>Olókun, doesn't even recognize or record Okun as a yoruba word. . . My write-up about > Okúkú Your quote debunk > About Olokun Your presented dictionary prove > addresses okuku as a WOOF.

ETYMOLOGY OF THE WORD OKÚKÚ, and the spread of the hairdo to Owo kingdom a district in Ondo state, the early expansion of the Benin empire Okúkú is an elaborate hairdo worn by edo women as the official female hairdo in Benin Kingdom, but eventually spread as the Benin civilization expanded beyond it originally defined territory Etymologically, the word Éto-Okúkú is derived from the edo word Kú to join, seen in the edo dictionary • 𝑲Ú³ (vb.) → to join with • The example: “They joined together to eat it” shows ku used relationally (“join with someone”). The "O" this →case, acts as a nominalizal "kú" into a noun Okú(ku) →intensification or emphasis, which is common in Edo languages, - 𝑲𝒐𝒌𝒐 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 (𝒌𝒐 - 𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓), 𝑲á𝒌á - 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒓𝒚 (𝑲á - 𝒅𝒓𝒚), 𝑻𝒊é 𝑻𝒊é - 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒚 (𝒕𝒊é - 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒚), 𝑭í 𝑭í - 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 (𝒇í - 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒆). Eto - Okúkú Okúkú → derives from the Edo verb ku (‘to join with’), with the nominalizing prefix 𝐎 → Okúkú →‘union,’ ‘joining together,’ or ‘collective coming together.’ - 𝑬𝒕𝒐 - 𝑶𝒌ú𝒌ú "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒋𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎 𝒂 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒆, 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒊𝒔 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔. Owo under Benin Hegemony The Owo seghosen outfit dubbed with the Okúkú hairdo worn by an Owo bride is one of the many influence of the Benin empire in the Owo district between 1480s - 1606, as Owo gain independence from Benin early during the reign of Oba Ehengbuda and were earlier subjected under Benin by Oba Ozolua. Owo among the eastern yoruba kingdoms exhibits high level of Benin influence majorly because of the location of owo to Benin and as earlier stated "the rise of the Benin empire" which expanded into Owo in the 1480s which according to Oladipo Joseph in 2006 and Ashara in the 1950s surrender peacefully to the hegemony, signing treaties with Oba Ozolua, which includes the crown prince of Owo mandatory journey to Benin to learn the edo court system. It was through Oshogboye, the last prince of Owo to undergo such journey, Benin relics, titles, attires, and hairdo crept into Owo, as documented by Robin poynor Benin had considerable influence on not just Owo court system but in her art and system of ancestral worship. The Okúkú "worn by Owo bride's to day is a relic that indirectly indicates the Benin control and hegemony over Owo kingdom.

This is uhunwun-Ogho hairdo, a more sophisticated hairdo worn only by women who are part of the four female societies in the Benin court. Okúkú is another hairdo that looks closely to this majestic hairdo, but Uhunmwun-Ogho translated to "The Ram's head" → head of respect → in Old edo society the hairdo is an automatic badge of aristocracy for an edo woman.

This is the real Bini okuku from before Owo Kingdom influence reached Bini Yet some Bini people keep crying online over things that didn’t originate from them. This is what happens when narratives are built on misinformation.🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The whole yoruba movement for almost a year now trying all their possible best to steal okúkú hairdo needs to be the most studied cultural theft in modern history, same people who do not know how to make this okúkú and adamantly trying to thief the whole hairdo needs to be curated. I have seen tweet of this nature up to 8 of them just today, lolz and funnily if we allow this trend, the lie will become the truth and all search engines when you search okúkú will refer you to the concocted origin the yoruba people orchestrating this will label on it, we thought it was impossible but they did it with Ada vbe Eben and all search engines today now refer to the scepters as yoruba owned, not that there are no appropriate history on this items from the edo end but because it never made the search engines. That being said - will be dwell on everything regarding okúkú and how we influence the Owo usage of the hairdo. Koyọ!!!

So what happened to Ife women, I mean if they didnt go into extinction then their attire should still proudly be worn in this day and time just as the Edos hold on to their Okuku
OG Beeper|| aka MJ’s baby@og_beeping101

Fun fact: both are of Yoruba origin. What we know as Edo bridal attire today is classic Ife empire women attire. It is now Edo bridal attire cos Ife influenced Benin heavily and till today, Benin runs on Ife civilization.

Okuku is solely an edo hairdo that got into eastern yoruba territories like owo through Benin occupation and empire status in the area. This gimmick you guys are trying to play with okúkú is very funny as there's no pictures from ife you claim okúkú started from where okúkú was used. In Benin okúkú is more than a hairdo it's a symbol of pride and a way the women relay messages to their husband as in the past every bead in the okúkú has a significance, except from the Ukpo-Okhokho which is the official hairdo of the Iyoba, as there are 5 okúkú styles in Benin Kingdom. - Ife was not an empire, there's no scholar or written memoir from the 17th to 20th century where ife was regarded as an empire, if it was elaborate on how it attained the status of an empire.. Culture Appropriation should be a crime in Nigeria punishable by law court. Okúkú is solely edo... 📸; Photos of gorgeous edo women in Okúkú
